"Weird to Awesome" Infertility Treatments?

Anyone notice the new bump feature on the main page today?

"The latest in fertility treatments: From weird to awesome."

Which ones are the "weird" ones, bump gods? Donors? Surrogates? I can't help but be a little offended by TB referring to ANY IF treatment as weird, especially the ones mentioned in the article.

Using the term "weird" keeps the topic of IF and associated treatments taboo and I think it's sad that the bump of all places continues to promote this kind of thinking.

IF isn't weird to me. It's my normal, and to 1 out of 8 couples, it's their normal too. There's nothing "weird" about it and it shouldn't continued to be viewed as such.

Ugh.

So strange! The 3 that I get are

"New Mom Surprises..."

"8 Hot Dates..."

"Are you ready to go back to work"

ETA: Scratch that...The Bump thinks I had one of my losses...it's showing me only new Mom info. Apparently there are 164 days until my child's birthday.

Interesting. It must pick the articles special for each bumpie depending on where they post, or based on their browser cookies maybe? No idea, I don't know enough about web programming. Oh well, good to know. It exists every time I go to the main page, smack dab in the middle lol.

Maybe the "weird" part is that someone, apparently a bump expert, thinks that one fertility treatment is "selecting child's looks"...not sure how they think that's a treatment for anyone.

Perhaps...but they never do clarify what is considered "weird" and what is "awesome" in their article. I guess I'm just not happy seeing an adjective like "weird" next to fertility treatment slapped on their main page. To me, the article's title encourages this idea that some fertility treatments are weird. I feel like it encourages your average fertile bumpie to think of infertility treatments are a part of a sideshow or something. It's already a taboo topic as it is among most fertile people, yet it's the norm for sooooo many couples.

I try to be an advocate for speaking up for IF and I promote embryo adoption whenever I can. It's hard enough as it is trying to explain to your average fertile person that building a family using donor embryo/egg/sperm isn't weird, it's actually a beautiful option for those of us who didn't get selected for the traditional path to parenthood. They didn't call out donor issues as weird, but they don't clarify so it's left for the reader to decide, right? I didn't like seeing "weird" next to the word fertility treatment on the main page where lots of bumpies go. I guess I'm in a sensitive space.

I agree with you 100%, it's inappropriate. ((hugs)), this sucks.

Thank you for sharing this - I posted a comment as should we all. The title is highly inappropriate and the bulk of the article is poorly written, but my main concern is that title! Seriously?! Terrible choice of words!

You know, if the author (the San Diego RE mentioned at the end) didn't actually title his article the way it was presented on the main page, he should be pretty POed at the bump too! He's getting some bad publicity!

They've changed the title now (!!!!) not sure if the pic/ad is still the same.

Still their comments on PGS testing are bogus shizz. Please pipe up ladies.

I have a hard time believing an actual MD wrote that article. If that was your doctor, wouldn't you be seriously questioning his qualifications? Yikes.

The main page ad still looks like it's there for me. I tried on my work computer and my home computer/multiple browsers. I hope they really are listening!

Your comments are great! I'm not sure if TB is reading them or not, but unfortunately it looks like the stupid ad is still smack dab on the front page still, and I'm at work on a whole new computer. UGH. What a ridiculous portrayal of IF treatments.

It bothers me that the chick in these articles always look so happy. I think one of the last emotions I would use to describe IF would be anything to do with happy.
