1st Trimester

two opinion/thought questions!

I have been trying to go over in my mind what I have planned in the next few weeks, to make sure I don't need to adjust anything post BFP....and I have a few questions for you ladies!  Obviously I know I can call my DR, but thought I would get your opinions before I decided to do that or not?

 (1) I have a spa day planned for my 30th this weekend.  We have a massage, facial and mani/pedi planned.  I do plan to call them tomorrow and let them know I'm preggers, but any thoughts on things I should avoid!?

(2) I leave for Jamaica in less than 2 weeks, and we were planning to climb Dunn's River Falls.  Should I avoid that?  I'll be about 6 weeks at that point.  Quite a few sites say "no pregnant women"...but I feel like I picture women in the 2nd tri + ??

Thanks in advance!  My mind is spinning!! haha

Re: two opinion/thought questions!

  • 1. I had to pass on my massage when I found out I was pregnant until I got out of the first trimester. My spa wouldn't do it.  After that I got prenatal massages.

    2. I think the hike should be fine just listen to your body and don't push yourself.

    Me: 34  DH: 35
    Married: July 2009
BFP: November 2012 after 2 years of TTC     DS born August 2013
    Diagnosed with PCOS April 2016
3 months of trigger shot with timed intercourse BFN x3
    First IUI: 9/17/16            BFP: 9/30/16              EDD: 6/11/17

  • I would pass on the massage and facial, but the mani/pedi should be okay.  If you're getting fake nails then you may want to wear a mask.  I'm not exactly sure what this is called, but at my salon it's the one where the technician wears a mask?  If they wear a mask, then you probably should too.

As for the hike, it all depends on how you feel. My concern would be that in the middle of the hike you could start feeling unwell (if it's too hot, for example) and you'll feel compelled to keep going when really you should take it easy.  If you did a lot of hiking pre-pregnancy then you're probably okay, but I wouldn't do something new for the first time.

Some of it is your own personal comfort level.  If the worst happened, are you the type who would constantly be regretting doing something?

Just so everyone knows this is a hike up a water fall, not like a hike in the woods. You literally walk up the water fall.

Okay, then I guess I don't understand how one can hike "up" a waterfall.  Is it hiking or is it not hiking?  Is it just a short, steep climb alongside the falls?  Will you be wearing any kind of safety gear (harness/helmet?).   If it says pregnant women can't participate, then I would take that to heart.  If you're really not sure, ask your doctor :-)

  • Hi I got a prenatal massage in my first trimester but I was having some nerve and blood flow issues with my extremities and I asked my OB about it and she said it was totally fine. As long as the masseuse has done a Pre Natal massage before. They basically just take it easy especially on your lower body because massaging your muscles releases toxins which can be harmful to bebe.

As far as spa products there are three very harmful substances they want you to avoid, which face it, we should be avoiding anyway. One of them is formaldehyde. I forget what the other two are. Ask Dr. Google. Otherwise if a spa product does not have those three things you are good. Facials are ok just no chemical peels. Facials should be all natural products anyway. Like scrubs and steam? Totally fine.

Thanks so much ladies!! I am going to call the spa today and see what they say. I may still go to the falls if my friend wants to go, but just not climb. I think it would be rare for something to happen, but it is true what some of you are saying about is it really worth the chance. Just seeing it will be beautiful I'm sure!

Salon said nope!  I am replacing it with a haircut and style :P since I'm taking my best friend and I'm also getting a facial and mani-pedi!

    Will still be enjoyable!
