February 2014 Moms

2nd time (or more) momma's... come in!

Are you getting many new things for this baby?

All of our baby gear (car seat, swing, breast pump, baby toys etc) will be 4 years old by the time this LO arrives.

I'd like to get a new baby carrier (ergo) and a high chair that rolls/cleans easily. We had a high chair that fit into a regular chair but that won't work this time.

If its a girl, we'll get new bedding and some more "girly" toys...

Other than that we're going to re-use as much as we can and then sell it after this LO outgrows it.

Re: 2nd time (or more) momma's... come in!

  • We had limited space so got rid of much of our stuff. We'll need a swing and bouncer if we want that. I'm considering a double stroller.

I still have th carriers and cloth diapers. We'll need a crib and likely clothes since DS and new baby will be different sizes at different seasons, even if baby is a boy. We still have some toys and they can share.

  • I've been thinking about this... Our convertible car seats will be passed on to the newbie and we'll move DS into high back boosters. I think I want to get a new infant carrier car seat for our nanny's car, but I don't need one because I'd rather baby-wear. Hubs may use the old infant carrier for a bit (it's easier for him to lug around 30 lbs of car seat plus baby than it is for me!). We'll need a new jogging stroller and lightweight stroller, both of those are fairly badly beaten up. I would like a new crib, but I don't see myself winning that battle. New mattress and bedding for sure. High chair and bouncer can be reused, as can travel crib. I'd like an Ergo this time around, too. Most of our little clothes have already been given away. Hubby is fairly stingy and I really like to baby-shop, so this will be a little bit of a tug of war.
I'm convinced that TheBump is having a posthumous feud with Steve Jobs and you can't post siggys from Macs.

    Cue Hormonal Rage.

  • I plan to get a few cute girly diapers, if LO is a girl of course lol. And some girl clothes, but probably wait until LO is in bigger sizes since they grow out of the stuff so quickly. I have a bunch of NB/3m sized stuff that was never even worn by #1.

Our baby gear will only be 2.5yrs old, so I plan to reuse most of it. I plan on getting new pump parts, and more bottles so I don't have to wash as frequently. I may get a new diaper bag, because the zipper broke on mine.

We plan to have LO in the room the first 6-12m, and I got generic colored sheets but I don't plan to set up a nursery for #2. The bouncey seat/etc are all generic so we'll be reusing all that stuff too.

It's kind of a relief to not feel like I have to get a whole bunch of stuff this time around. And I feel like I know better how little they actually need vs what BRU tells you is necessary lol.

  • I forgot about car seats. DS is still rear-facing. We may swap him when baby arrives, we'll have to see. His car seat still fits behind the driver seat if I'm driving. It may not if DH is.

LO will use DS's infant seat until he or she outgrows it, and then will get a convertible. I want DS in a five point harness until he's at least five, as is recommended, so no high back booster for awhile for him.

  • We are planning on reusing as much as possible.  As of now the only things we are planning on buying are another space saver high chair, a swing (we didn't have one for DS, but have room now), and a few things for the room.  We aren't finding out the gender, so if it is a girl we will buy girl clothes/things after.

  • Well, considering we thought we were done and sold EVERYTHING we had in March, I'll have to buy everything all over again.

  • There were times I was 100% done with 2 kids.  We gave away all of DS's clothes.  We also got rid of our swing and bouncy chair.  We picked up new ones at a mom2mom sale for $30.  We also need a new infant car seat.  DH's cousin is done having kids and she has 2 boys, she said she will give us her clothes if this one is a boy.  We still have all our girl stuff.

Once this baby is done with any stage...all the stuff is going.  We are 100% done after this baby, I will be getting my tubes ties with my c-section.

  • LO is just 13 months, and won't even be 2 by the time the new one comes, so we have pretty much all we need now.  Still debating on if we should get more car seats as LO is in the convertible and DH still has the infant one in his car.  Honestly, it looks like we're probably going to get a new car too-both of ours are pretty small.

New crib for the baby, some girly stuff if its a girl, but I really don't care if she wears boy stuff around the house.  I have a baby ktan wrap but if I can find something that actually fits me better I'll try it.  New pump stuff and maybe more bottles.

I'm going to hit up as many mom to mom sales this time around to save on clothes and stuff.

We'll need to get a new infant car seat.  (Ours was new with our first child, and we used it for #2, but the oldest is seven now, so the seat is expired.)

We need a new high chair, too.  I got one, used, from a friend, for my first child, and then continued to use it for my second, so by the end, it had gone through four kids.  Broken straps, pad falling apart, etc.  We'll be replacing that for sure.

We had borrowed a big swing for our first, and did without a big swing for our second, so if we want one of those, I guess we'll be buying it.

I am glad to have a pretty wide selection of  kids clothes, in both boy and girl styles, for all different seasons.  We've been happy to get hand-me-downs from friends, so hopefully (crossing my fingers) we won't HAVE to buy a whole lot of new clothes.  It's nice to have the basics kind of covered, in the department, so I can splurge a little more on some fun stuff.

  • DS is 16 months, so we also have a lot of the things we will need.  I already bought a used city select double stroller and mamaroo swing off of craislist and saved a bunch of money (the stroller is in great condition and the swing was barely used).  We are going to wait until Thanksgiving time to decide if we will buy another crib or if DS will be ready to move into a toddler bed.  If this LO is a boy we will be set for clothes, since DS was born in March 20th and this LO is due Feb 20th.  If we are having a girl then we will buy some girly clothes, but probably not much until she is out of 3month clothing since most of those outfits from DS were gender neutral.  All of our other big ticket items (high chair, car seat, etc) are also all gender neutral so LO will be using them too:)
  • The only thing I'm really looking forward to getting is a double stroller! I'm pretty obsessed with the City Select.

We are fine on car seats, which are all gender neutral.

I received an infant to toddler rocker that I loved using with DD as a bouncer. Unfortunately, I was given the girl pattern but I will still use it if we happen to have a boy.

We didn't use a swing with DD but my sis just had a baby girl, which is her last so she plans to share that as well as her Rock and Play. Again, they are both girl pattern but I rather just use them then have to buy new something that we won't use for very long at all.

We use a space saver with DD and when the new baby is ready to eat at about 6 months DD will already be in a booster.

I'm really surprised all we will really need to buy is the double stroller and clothes!

  • Even if this LO is the same sex they wil be born in different seasons -so we will see how clothing works out. Of course we will reuse as much as we can. My big questions are:

Crib - my mother seems to think we should buy a second one in order to keep DD1 in it for as long as possible. While I agree I think 2+ years is an acceptable timeframe to move into a big girl bed.

Girly stuff (like playmat, etc) - am I ok with letting a boy play with a pink playmat? I haven't decided yet... I'm pretty 50/50 about it actually.

I do want to get a swing this time around - didn't have one for DD b/c our apartment was so small when we had her, but now we live in a stucco palace so lots of room for more kid crap :)

We'll reuse all of DD's "gear" and baby toys.  We bought pretty much everything gender neutral, and did the nursery that way as well, so my intent is to move DD to a "big girl" room (and she gets new stuff) and pretty much just change the name on the wall in the nursery.  Regardless of gender, we'll probably need new clothes considering the october vs. feb/march seasonal differences.  The newborn things were pretty gender neutral and could be used in most any season, but from there it will need to be new.  I'll be getting a double jogger eventually.

We have limited room in our house so we got everything gender neutral as well. For this one we will be getting a dresser, (we already have a 2nd crib), mattress for the baby or a bigger one for our son, and a double stroller. I seriously think that may be all.
  • Not a lot. New crib and bedding. I'm getting DS a car seat so new LO can have the infant seat. Prob also a double stroller. New pumping attachments.

  • We bought everything pretty gender neutral because we were always planning on having more than one LO. If this LO#2 is another girl then we will just keep the carseat/stroller we have now since it is pink and grey. If we find out it is a boy then we will do the trade in event that babies r us does for the stroller and maybe make a cover for the seat.

We also need to buy another crib and bedroom furniture because we get the 4-in-1 beds.

  • Well, I gave away most of my baby stuff thinking we were done. Hoping to get some of it back or just buying used. Since this is my third, I know what I really need and it's not near as much as I gave away! I will be getting a new pump since my insurance covers it and mine was beginning to have issues with DD. As for nursery stuff, this one is going in our room so probably going low key on the crib bedding. My, how things have changed.

  • I already bought an Ergo so that's done. We might get a space saver chair since we used an annoying wooden one with DD. Baby will need a crib and dresser and some new bottles. I'll also replace my pump parts, or get a new one if my insurance covers a good one. Everything else is gender neutral

  • I don't think we'll get anything new. Except yeah, we threw away our bottles. I can't think of anything else we'll need except clothes if it's a boy.

  • We are planning on trading in DS's old stroller and infant carseat at the BabiesRUs trade in event - I hear that they should be doing it again in September. The carseat is way too big to fit in our cars along with a convertible seat for DS, and the stroller was the worst stroller I've ever seen. It was gigantic but the tray made the leg opening very small, so it always scraped DS's legs. I think I gave away the swing and exersaucer that I had so we will need to find one of those. We are using the same crib and high chair we had for DS. As for the little stuff, it depends on if this is a boy or girl. But ever if it's a boy this LO will be born in a different season as DS so we will most likely need to buy new clothes anyway.

  • I have to get all new everything! DD will be 9 when this LO is born. I still have her pack and play and that's it. Her convertible car seat recently expired plus both of those items had been in heavy rotation since she used them regularly. They don't even make the first convertible car seat I had for her anymore! It had one of those overhead shields. I look forward to seeing how much baby stuff has changed since 2004!

Um, I totally forgot about a dresser. I was thinking I needed almost nothing, as I have already had a boy and a girl in winter, clothes line up so well. Well, where did I think I was going to put the clothes! Baby brain much?

  • I'm a little baby gear crazy so I've already bought a Bob Duallie, a B Ready, and a new B Agile travel system as I can't stand the Graco one I had with DS (he's only 19 months). Like I said, I'm nutty for gear, plus I bought them at a steep discount from a sweet online retailer. I'll need to buy a dresser for when we move DS to another room and new clothes if LO is a girl. DS was born in December and has always run pretty small so I think I'll be able to make his clothes work if baby is a boy. I actually plan to sell more items than I need to buy. I have two Ergos, a Performance and an original, and a Beco Gemini that I bought and never used.. I was just too indecisive. I ended up going with an Ergo Performance but in a different color. DH has been very kind with my ridiculous quest for all things baby.. so I think I'm pretty set now.

  • I have a 6 year old boy and a 20 month old boy.  I need a high chair because we never got one and only have 4 chairs at our table so we have to get something.  Other than that, unless it's a girl, we won't need much.  I do also want a new changing pad.
Mom to Ryan (3/28/07) and William (10/26/11).  Surprise- We are expecting baby #3 on February 1, 2014!

  • We'll have to get a second car seat; DS's is still good long enough to get past this one, so, thankfully we already have one.

We already bought the minivan.  We'd been casually looking, but when we got the news we were jumping from a family of 4-6, well...and now we have to sell my car, which I love & am not happy about.

I picked up an extra vibrating seat & a boppy off of CL, both like new.  The vibrating seats are always so easy to stick them in, & then we kinda make them the centerpiece during supper, so they're included, & I don't have to hop up 50 times a meal to check on them.

Other than that, we might pick up a few things as we go along, but I have clothes for each sex from my previous 2, I have the bottles, the pump, the toys, etc.  We will use the same crib & either get a divider, or put one in the crib, one in the pack n play.

I'm hoping our biggest expense this time around will just be diapers.
  • We don't have much storage space so we will have to get just about everything except for just a few favorite outfits that I have saved over the years.
  • We'll need a crib, swing and stroller. Our DD's crib is now her full size bed and our stroller just got beaten down after 3.5 years. Our swing was a multiple family hand-me-down and just stopped functioning. Not too bad, I think. Of course, I want new crib bedding and décor but we'll have to see. YAY Shopping!
I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!

    Mom to Lily and Colin!
  • Yes I got rid if everything my son is 5 now!
  • I started a registry on Amazon (mostly for the completion code and to be entered into their weekly raffle drawing) with about 10 items on it. I'd like to get a dual camera video monitor and we'll be getting a double stroller. Other than that, we'll be reusing most things since the babies will only be 25 months apart.
