Can we talk beta numbers for a second?

So because I am a neurotic freak..I kept a note at work with all my beta numbers from my appointments 2 years ago. So since my betas are falling on the exact same days as DS?s I have been comparing my numbers. I know from what I read beta numbers aren?t really indicative of singletons or twins. But my third beta today is so much higher then my sons. Any thoughts?!! We of course are super excited to be pregnant again..Dh is just really nervous about having twins. They run on both sides of our family.

Current Betas:

1^st- 320

2^nd ? 678

3^rd ? 1875

My Son?s Betas:

1^st- 333

2^nd ? 618

3^rd ? 1052

Your third beta doesn't seem ridiculously high to me compared to your betas from two years ago, but that is just my opinion. Congrats.

I don't think your third beta seems crazy high. My doctor drew an insane amount of betas and sometimes I would have a "bigger" jump in between draws too. Those numbers look fantastic. Congrats!!!

Thanks. You know you start looking at sites on the internet and getting a little worried. Now if 12 weeks could come and go I would be super excited.

My betas are in my siggy if you'd like to compare, but you are correct in the statement that beta numbers aren't indicative of a multiples pregnancy. Two of my friends actually had beta numbers nearly identical to mine and ended up with singletons. Some people swear that the doubling time can be different with multiples, but that wasn't the case with me. I never doubled in 48 hours. When is your first ultrasound?

Also, I wouldn't worry about twins on your husband's side. It's only maternal, fraternal twins that matter for hereditary twins. Identical twins are a completely spontaneous event and nothing about the man's side would determine whether or not multiples were conceived since he can send off multiple sperm no matter what. The thought of twins can be a little overwhelming, so I understand his worries!

My dad's mother had two sets of twins which is why we were worried and of course due to treatments. But all of us on here have that chance with fertility treatments. Thank you!! Your numbers are definitely a whole lot higher!!

First ultrasound in August 2nd! All I want is a healthy baby!!

Once you are doing fertility treatments what is in your family pretty much doesn't matter. You have had u/s to see how many follicles you had so you know what the potential for multiples is. (Identical twins don't run in families and fraternal twins on the maternal side can.) GL!

I wouldn't pay too much attention to beta numbers as long as they are rising appropriately. The exact time between lab draws makes a difference too. My betas for twins were on the low end & not that different for this singleton.
