Hi Everyone - I would like to thank all of you in advice who post on this thread
I have PCOS and am currently on metformin and birth control therapy for period regulation. My husband and I are looking to start the journey to conception after the new year. I am currently seeing an endocrinologist but haven't discussed the start of conception with him, i found out when i was young that I had PCOS so I've been seeing endocrine doctors in hopes of getting my body in order prior to trying to get pregnant. I was wondering if anyone has any advice or recommendations for me? I know that weight is a big issue with infertility and PCOS and I have recently lost 50 lbs I guess I am just wondering what your experiences with PCOS and the options that there are out there for us women with this syndrome.
Thank you again and I appreciate any advice that you may have
Re: PCOS
Hey there, Beverly, welcome to the board. I'm a lot like you. Before TTC, I saw an endocrinologist regularly to control my PCOS, and I took BC and metformin. It sounds like you are doing all the right things. First, start taking prenatal vitamins. It's ideal to start them 3 months before conceiving. Second, make an appointment with a Reproductive Endocrinologist (Fertility Specialist). He or she can determine if you are ovulating (just because you get a period doesn't mean you actually ovulated--I wasn't). If you aren't ovulating, the RE can discuss options for treating that. They run from minimal (Clomid) to invasive (IVF). Third, continue with the healthy eating and weight loss. Weight loss can help with fertility in women with PCOS. And fourth, if it ends up that you need IF treatment, this board can be a great source of knowledge and support.
Above all, don't despair. Lots of women with PCOS are in your shoes and end up having babies! GL!
TTC #1 since 2011
Me: 36, anovulatory PCOS; DH: 34, fine
Thank you both so much for the warm welcome
I plan to see my RE within the next fews months and get myself on the right path and get going and hope for the best
Thank you! That picture is my absolute favorite from our wedding
I lurk here often because I have PCOS and struggled with IF. With both of my children, one took 2 years the other 4, I reduced simple carbs and sugar. I also took vitamins D and B12, exercised, ate lots of healthy natural foods (not things that are labeled fat free/reduced, those have lots of chemicals), and increased soy consumption (soy is similar to estrogen). Make sure you talk to your Dr. before using the vitamins, maybe have your levels checked too. It didn't happen right away, but it's what I believe ultimately worked after failed fertility treatments.
I notice a huge improvement in my symptoms when I do those things too, it's just hard to when you don't have the motivation, ya know?
