Looking for messenger bag style. He wants to still carry his laptop in it as well, crazy man. He has a liquid proof case he will have over his laptop so that's not a concern. Nothing that screams diaper bag in its styling. Suggestions?
DH was given a SkipHop messenger style diaper bag...its very sharp and masculine. He will end up using my cheesy monogrammed pottery barn kids diaper bag because he'll be too lazy to switch
Ok, maybe a stupid question so educate me. Why do dads need their own diaper bag? I bought one and thought it would stay with the baby(ies) just like the car seats do.

I know the feeling! DH always throws all his crap into my purse as it is now. He did it today at the store, and I informed him that I would not be toting his stuff, my stuff and baby's stuff around - I am not a pack mule. So, we are looking for a bag for him, though I see him just using mine anyway, lol.

They don't. Luckily for DH, our diaper bag is a Air Force flight suit bag so it's already "manly" but if I got a Vera Bradley, he would just carry that. I will have LO 99% of the time. For that rare 1% that DH takes him somewhere without me, he wouldn't have an issue carrying around a girly bag.
Oh, so it's mainly so the husband doesn't have to carry a girly print bag? Gotcha. DH doesn't care. I'd be the one to make sure both bags had what they needed so, yeah, no! ;-)

They definitely don't NEED one. DH will be responsible for DC pick ups/drop offs when I'm working, and will have her out and about without me if I'm working a weekend. He just wanted one of his own that's not flowers. I suppose I could've gone gender neutral on the bag, but I wanted my pretty PPB one

I agree, they really don't. BUT I will be back at work before he has to start traveling again so he will have baby during the day after I go back to work. I don't want to make him carry around my girly bag. Also DH likes to have me carry his stuff now - cell phone, wallet, keys, etc. in my purse now. I figure I'll get him his own bag and he can carry his own stuff (mobile: winky face).
We'll be sharing a Diaper Dude Messenger II bag because I'm not keen on girly designs either. We don't actually have ours yet though, so I don't know that it'd be wide enough to house a laptop.
Might there be a laptop bag that can be outfitted to carry baby gear too?

If you find a diaper bag you like, you can always buy a waterproof sleeve or neoprene case for your laptop.

He's got the waterproof sleeve already. So we are all set there. For shorter business trips, he uses his current messenger bag as his suitcase and can throw in his toiletries, clothes and such. He bought the sleeve in case the toiletries leak during travel.
I used to work in a sports store so before we all got laid off I decided to do some shopping in there for the last time, anyways I bought this black leather puma bag that has a front pocket and the main pouch area with a zipper on the inside, it's gonna be great for him! Plain and simple and its like a messenger style..

Agreed! Ours is a Skip Hop messenger bag that is red to match the stroller colors. DH picked it out. I don't need a super girly bag and I'm happy to just have one diaper bag to worry about restocking.
The bag I carry my laptop and such in for work is an Osprey messenger bag. I love it! It's a bit big for quick trip diaper bag, but I use it as diaper bag for long days out or weekends out of town. A smaller size would make a good regular bag. A lot of the non diaper bag messenger bags that I see at REI would work. Because they're for a sporty crowd, they always usually have the water bottle pockets on the outside for bottles and sippy cups.

Staceymack, my husband doesn't care. He has carried whatever, even when he isn't with me. He figures that having fathered two (now three) kids makes him man enough to rock a diaper bag.
DH has a Diaper Dude. I had the Skip Hop Versa in black with DS. DH thought it was too girly. Until the baby was actually here, and he realized he was going out with a BABY and obv no one was going to give it a second thought what bag he was carrying! So we both just ended up using whatever bag was ready, packed and near the door. We'd spend several months with one, then for some reason one of us would switch to the other, and we'd use that one for several months, and switch back... Now at 2, we just have a diaper and wipes in the car, no diaper bag at all.
For this baby I finally bought my PPB! It is girly, and DH really could not care less. He hasn't even looked at it yet.

I got my DH a Diaper Dude bag too. From BRU. It is on sale right now.
Ideally he would have liked something from REI (an outdoor store for those of you who don't have one), because it is sportier and probably more durable.
I was going to get a neutral bag so we only needed one but I fell in love with the stupid Carter's pink and black owl bag so I now own that. lol!! Luckily my awesome aunt and uncle surprised us with a Harley Davidson diaper bag in addition. Not much for brand names, I wasnt excited at first but it's a really impressive bag : I guess DH can deal with the large biker logo, and if not, he can use my baby pink owl bag. Hahaha
We're going to get a backpack for our diaper bag and not just a diaper bag that is styled like a backpack. We have some inserts from other bags we received as gifts for separating items or keeping a bottle or bottles cool, so we will use those if and when we need them. There are a lot of back packs with the zipper specifically for a laptop, so that would be an easy buy if that's the direction you wanted to go. I'm waiting a little longer for some "back to school" backpack sales to kick in at our local stores before we buy ours. Until then, we have some uber girly and NMS bags we received as gifts, and that we can't return, that we can use if LO comes before we have the backpack.
Re: Diaper Bag for Dad
LOL - mine is Kate Spade, black with white bow ties. I just don't get it? It's cute, why WOULDN'T he want to rock it?!

Didn't know Columbia made diaper bags - good to know though, love the brand!
my H has a similar one, but it's Eddie Bauer brand

We registered for a columbia one for him from BRU... he was adamant about having his own

You can always get a normal messenger bag and a dipe bag organizer for inside of it... then it totally won't scream dipe bag.
Its what I'm planning on doing if I can't find a Diaper Dudes bag for cheaper.
