My little man came 6 weeks early. He's already 3 and a half months old but I know he might not be as developed as a 3 and a half month old should be. I know every baby deveoples differently but whenever people ask and I tell them he still isn't STTN people look at me sideways. I'm just wondering when did your LO start to sleep through the night?( if they even do yet) I've been taking all the advice I can get about trying to get him to sleep more. He hardly sleeps during the day. Normally only takes one good hour nap during the day, he's always awake! I've tried mostly everything I change his diaper, clothes, make him a bottle. He eats 4 ounces sometimes less if he just won't eat, then he will fall asleep but not for long. He will be up 3 or 4 hours later ready to eat again. I try feeding him more right before bed but he just stops eating at 4 ounces needless to say, I havnt gotten to sleep more than a 3-4 hour period in months and I might go crazy pretty soon if I can't get him to sleep through the night:,(
And if your still reading this, thank you for listening to me complain and thanks in advance for any advice (:
Re: Still not STTN? Help/vent
I think that's normal, especially if he was 6 weeks early. My girls are 12 weeks today (born at 38 weeks, so full term for twins) and they don't STTN - in fact, I sort of side-eye the babies on here who are sleeping from 6:30 pm until 5 am! (Not really side-eye, I guess, but I am amazed by them). If he's eating 3-4 oz every 3-4 hours, that is totally normal, especially for his adjusted age.
I wish my girls would give up their MOTN feeding too (we're down to just 1) but they'll do it when they're ready, which may not be for a long time yet... a good friend's baby didn't STTN until 11 months!
ETA: Not sure if you are EBFing, but if not, can your SO help out with some of the MOTN feedings? In the early days when we were waking up every hour with our girls, my husband and I took 3 hour shifts and he'd give them a bottle during his shift while I BF during mine. It helped ensure that we each got a bit more sleep (although in those days, a 3 hour unbroken stretch was about as good as it got!)
DS was born at 36.5 weeks so he is 3 months now. He just recently (last week) started STTN. Most times he is really cranky/sleepy about 7-8pm. When he gets like that I start getting him ready for bed by cluster feeding, bath time (I use Aveno lavendar body soap that supposedly calms them for bed time) and then lay him down in his PnP. He's been doing pretty good about falling to sleep on his own, even mangaed the last two nights without being swaddled. We get up early for work so he usually wakes up between 5:00-6:30. He primarily gets between 7-8 hours. His daycare sitter only lets him nap about 2 hrs during the day and tries to keep him awake and active to help us. It's hard to believe it was only two weeks ago he was waking up for feedings. For myself, since I breastfeed, I feed him and then right before I go to bed I pump as much as possible so I don't wake up too engorged. My milk supply is starting to adjust as well.
Try not to stress too much about it, it will start to get better soon hopefully. Don't know if any of that is advice but that is what works for us.
LO is 10 weeks tomorrow (born at 40 wks) and still not STTN. She goes down at around 10, wakes at 2:30ish then is up again at around 5:30-6, hungry and ready to start her day. There have been a few times (like twice) where she's gone for 7 or 8 hour stretches, but those have started at like 8pm, so I didn't get to take advantage of the extra sleep for myself. Fingers crossed that our LOs start sleeping longer soon!!
ETA: My husband can't seem to understand that 3 months of consistently interrupted sleep is really starting to affect me. He will want to stay out at friend's houses til 10 or 11pm and acts like I'm being unreasonable... he'll say "we can sit around and watch tv here just the same as at home" It's not the same at all! I totally understand your frustration with the lack of sleep. Maybe your DH can help with feeding if you're using formula!
Almost 12 weeks old here and not sttn, we get 4 hours maybe 5 once and a while at night for the first stretch and then 2 or 3 max for the rest of the night.
he also just started eating every three hours consistently during they day instead of 2.
Hah! We do exactly this every night and have yet to get more than 2.5-3 hour stretch!
As far as people giving you the side eye, try not to let that worry you. I'm finding that lots of people think they're parenting experts.
My first didn't sleep 7-7 until he was nine months.
Technically, any stretch past six is considered sleeping through the night by definition. So by that definition, my second has slept a seven hour stretch the last week (he is ten weeks tomorrow), but then is up every 1-2 hours after that. So!
I think your baby not sleeping through the night is much more common than anyone here whose kid is.
Edit: that 4 to 5 hr stretch is new for us! Used to be 3 hrs max until a week or so ago.

Not sleeping much during the day might be the problem. I have always heard that sleep begets sleep and it has worked for both my babies so far. We did the Baby Whisperer EASY routine and have had two good sleepers at night that took gold naps during the day. Maybe try to focus on daytime naps and see if night sleep falls into place?
Although I think it is not at all unusual for a 3.5 month old baby to not be sleeping straight through the night. I would be going bonkers too though if I had to get up every 3-4 hours still but I would not be surprised if a baby that age still had just one MOTN feeding.
Sorry I guess I'm a bit misleading here. If he wakes up at 4:30 when we get up for work I feed him (at which point he has had 7hrs at least of sleep) He will get at least another 1 - 1 1/2 hrs before taking him to daycare. Sometimes he will continue to sleep while I get ready and I wake him up at 6:30 to feed before taking him to daycare. At daycare he will nap short naps but she doesn't let him sleep longer than a 2hr period. She only has 4 kids total so she is very interactive with the boys. Plus he will take a nap sometime after getting home but before going down for the night. This doesn't affect him during the evening as he has been STTN for over a week now, the last three nights without being swaddled. I read an article that helps with a guide to what they should be getting according to age and he is getting what he needs. Here's the link if you want to check it out.

Sorry to disappoint you, but my oldest didn't sleep through the night until she was 1.
This. We still have nights where 2.5 is the longest stretch. My DS1 slept through the night 8-6 when he was 7 months old, after a few weeks of effort to eliminate the last feeding, and I thought that's as pretty good! He has only slept a 12 hour stretch once in his nearly 3 years. Every child is different. I have several friends whose children didn't sleep through the night until past a year old. It doesn't mean it's not hard, but it's all 'normal'!
