Question for STM's

Mobile: question for STM's

This may be a TMI question but I'm just curious.

How long did Aunt Flo stay with you after you delivered? And how soon did she make her appearance afterwards?

Edit:: some back ground on the question. My friends have told me some out rageous things and I don't believe half of them. EX. My friend has a 14month old she claims to STILL be visiting Aunt Flo.

Re: Question for STM's

  • I don't understand your question. I had bleeding PP for a week, and didn't start having my period again for a year PP. is that what you meant?

Yes this was the question. Thanks for your answer :D

  • I had PP bleeding for about 5 weeks with both kids, although the last 3 weeks was flight bleeding. With DS I got my period back around 12w PP(I stopped pumping at 5 weeks) and with DD I got my first period at 10 months(I stopped pumping at 9 months).

  • I bled for about 6 weeks the first time. I think it was a bit less the 2nd. It was only heavy for the first week though.

With ds1 af came back on his first bday. With ds2, not until he was about 19 months.

I was still bfing both when af returned.

  • After I had DS, I bled for 2 months straight but it tapered off at one point and got really heavy again.  My OB said that I must have ended my postbirth bleeding with my first real period.  Yayyyy!!!

    Mind you I wasn't bfing.

  • I think I bled for 2 weeks? Only the first few days were really heavy. I got my period after 3 months WITH BFing exclusively. Everyone was telling me it would hold off for at least 6 months. I think it has more to do with how soon LO sleeps a good stretch because my daughter slept 6 hours starting at 2 months.

  • I bled for 6 weeks PP but 4 of those weeks were really light. I got my period back after six months. I was still BFing when I got it.

  • Thanks for all your answers ladies :D I know it was a bit of a weird question

  • Not weird at all, it's normal to want to know what to expect.  I bled just about until my 6 wk checkup the first time but it was very light after the first week or so.

the second time it was overall a little less and probably would have been done entirely at 2 or 3 weeks but I kept overdoing it and it would start up again.

Both times I did not get my period until a few weeks after I weaned, so sometime around 10 or 11 months.  It was not missed!

I bled for about a week and a half to two weeks after having DS. My period didn't return until after I stopped bf'ing. I bf DS until he was a year and my period arrived about 6 weeks later. It was actually pretty normal too.

  • I bled for about 6 weeks both times. The first time I had my period at about 3 months. I breast fed the 2nd time exclusively and had my period at 45 month.

PP, I bled for about 2 weeks. I passed a huge clot that freaked me out a little and I stopped bleeding maybe 2 days after that. I had my first PP period around 7 months.

This for PP and also 12 weeks PP for AF... but I pumped exclusively for 11 months and still had AF come back 12 weeks PP

  • I had a csection and had PP bleeding for a good week and a half. At the end it was very light. I started my actual AF a month of two after giving birth with all three and it lasted about 5 to 7 days. I have long periods to begin with until I got on BC.

  • I bled after DS was born for probably 45 weeks. AF returned at 8 weeks pp and I was exclusively breastfeeding!!

  • Everyone is different.  I bled PP for about 3-4 weeks.  Tapered off and got lighter after about a week, though.  I had my first period when DD was about 6 months then didn't have another one for a year.  I had to be put on hormone therapy for a few months to get my cycle going again.

  • I bled for about a week or two after delivery (you don't use tampons, just major pads) and then got my period probably about a month later.

  • after delivery which was done via c section i bled for a week or 2 it was heavy for the first few days then just a normalish period. I didn't get my actual period until about 6 months after delivery and it was outrageous the worst period I have ever seen or had to the point where i couldn't move and had to run to change my tampon multiple times an hour and had to call out of work.

  • I bled for 3 weeks and got my period at 6 weeks PP, despite nursing, with both DD and DS. With my first pregnancy, my cycle came back regularly about a month after weaning. With my second, it took 8 months postbfing to return, and even then, it wasn't regular. I only had one real cycle aside from the 6 week visit from AF before conceiving this time.
    Sorry, that was probably convoluted.

  • I don't recall exactly how many weeks PP I bled, but I know for sure I was done by my 6w PP appt. I want to say it was only a week or 2.

Since we were breastfeeding, I didn't get my regular period again til somewhere between 6-8 mo PP. This was shortly after DS was eating more baby food with his nursing, so he was nursing less overall.

    Everyone is different though.

  • I was confused since I don't consider postpartum bleeding "aunt flo". But anyway...I had a csection and I bled lightly for about a week. Those I know who have vaginal births say they bled up to 6 weeks after giving birth.

My period returned after 4 months...and I exclusively breastfed. What's up with that??? I was hoping for closer to a year... I got cheated lol

  • I bled for about 5 weeks or so PP, but then AF didn't return until ~15 months PP. I was nursing, though, and that makes a big difference. Some people get their cycle back quickly regardless, but others won't until the babe is weaned or nursing much less.

ETA: If your friend is STILL bleeding 14 months PP, she needs to checked out, obvs. That's seriously not normal. 6 weeks is about the max for normal PP bleeding.

The hospital will send you home with mega pads, take them and then take some more.

PP - heavy bleeding for about 2 weeks and by heavy I mean take your worst day and multiple by 3.

Regular AF came back around 15/16 months.

  • If I can remember correctly I bled for maybe a week, week and a half (I delivered via c-section if that matters). Then I didn't get my period until a month after I stopped nursing DD (so 8 months after delivery).

  • I bled for 4 weeks, then AF came about 9 months later. I BFed, though. If I hadn't, AF would have come back earlier.

  • Postpartum bleeding is usually gone by your 6 week postpartum ob visit.  It pretty much starts immediately following the birth, and is usually quite heavy at first, but it's definitely not heavy the whole time.  I think my bleeding was heavy for the first week, medium flow for the second, and then really light bleeding for another two weeks after that.  Not sure I remember exactly, but I think it lasted about 4 weeks for me.  Women vary of course, but by 6 weeks post partum your bleeding should be done, or you can ask your OB about it at your appt.

It's not a period, and it's anyone's guess when your first period will arrive or when those will be regular again... somewhere between 3 months and a year you'll probaby get a period depending on breastfeeding and contraception...

  • Aunt Flo hung aroun with me for about four or five weeks after both of my csections...now after two weeks it tapered off a lot. She disappeared and then reappeared almost as soon as I quit breastfeeding around 7months.
  • I had postpartum bleeding for almost 6 weeks. It was gone by my 6 week appt. I did not get my period until I was 6 months postpartum.
  • I stopped bleeding within 2 days of coming home both times. AF returned at 5 weeks with both despite EBF.
