If you've had an HSG c'mon in

I have one Tuesday on cd 6.

Not gonna lie that I am not feeling a little anxious about it.

Is it painful? I know its quick. What do I need to know to feel mentally prepared? Or am I just hyping it up in my mind too much?

I have one tube so that should be interesting. I am anxious to know if my remaining tube is ok or not!

    Same for me.

The entire procedure only took about five minutes. Make sure you take some Aleve or Motrin at least 30 minutes before your appointment. Good luck!

It definitely wasn't bad for me at all. When they injected the liquid, I got a little crampy (kind of like poop cramps). I took a valium beforehand, but I probably would have been fine without it and I don't think it did much for me at all.

    Good luck.

Mine was painful but quick.  I think most of my pain came from the doctor jabbing the hell out of my cervix because he couldn't get the catheter in.  The pain was like really intense menstrual cramps and nothing I couldn't handle for the 5-10 minutes it took to complete the procedure.

This. I was really crampy for about five minutes or less but overall it wasn't bad at all. Definitely take Advil and BYOP pad. Good luck!

It wasn't bad at all.  I took two ibuprofen about 30 minutes beforehand.  The procedure itself is similar to a pap, in terms of discomfort.  I had some pain when they inserted the catheter, but honestly it was quick and the "worst" part of the whole procedure.  I took a pad to wear for any discharge afterwards, but could have gotten by with a only a liner.

    Good luck.

The mental build up was way worse for me than the actual procedure.

This was me.  I took the recommended ibuprofen before the procedure.  It didn't last long at all.  I didn't even feel the catheter, I remember saying, "It's in already?"

There was some minor cramping, and he kinda had to shake my hips around to get the dye to move, but not bad at all.  However, I had no blockages, which I heard may make it more painful.

I didn't go back to work afterwards.. I went home and took a nap. I think I was mentally exhausted.

Good luck, hopefully you get good news!

I agree with all of the previous posters.  Definitely take some Advil beforehand in case of any pain.  It was a bit painful for a minute or so but then it was fine and I went about my day afterwards.

I had a bit of pain. I think because the doctor who did it was all business and not gentle at all.  I felt pain when he inserted the cathater and had light cramping and spotting for about 3 days after. I'd recommend taking a pain killer before you go. Personally I am glad its over and hope I don't have to do another anytime soon. Good Luck!!

It wasn't painful for me at all.  I did take some ibuprofen an hour before the procedure though, so that may have helped.  I kept waiting for the pain to happen, then they were like, OK you're done!  I was like, hmmm, are you sure lol

Although they told me it could take an hour mine was quick, maybe 20 minutes. The cramping for me was less than a period and was mostly gone after the procedure, although I didn't have any blockages which may have helped. Good luck!

Looks like I'm going to have to have this done in the next couple of weeks, and I was having some anxiety about this as well. My obgyn doesn't do it in office. It's something they refer you to a radiologist for. Is this normal? I would much rather my doctor perform the procedure than a radiology tech. Also, do they go over the results right away?

My RE was the one to perform the procedure, but it was done at a local hospital, not at his office.  He went over the results with me immediately afterwards.

I'm not going to lie, it was excruciatingly painful for me. Both of my tubes were 100% blocked though, which is why.

The good news is that it only lasts a few minutes. I had zero cramping or bleeding afterwards, which is a good thing. I also took Motrin before, but it did nothing to help.

My HSG took about 20 minutes but my RE is a bit of a talker and he made sure I could see the monitor while he was doing the procedure.

I forgot to take advil beforehand and did not have any issues.  I had what may have been an air bubble near my left tube that the RE was trying to get to move so that was a little uncomfortable (mainly because I was having to twist my torso with while he was trying to move my uterus).

Good luck and I hope you remaining tube is nice and clear!

I had a brief sharp pain when they tried to force my cervix a certain way using the catheter. (I've got a tilted cervix and uterus) It was so fleeting and no big deal. I took the IB before but didn't have any cramping and no bleeding at all. I drove myself, went to work for a full day after.

My results were normal, not blocked

::lurking - ticker warning, if you need it::

I agree like most people said, the anticipation was the worst part.

I felt a quick pinch when they put the cathedar in. slight cramps when they started injecting the dye, built up to worse than menstrual cramps, but the worst part lasted for maybe 30 seconds. Two deep breaths, and it was over. Really not that bad. They had me roll side-to-side, and that relieved the pressure to a negligible level. Then it was done - not even 5 min start to finish. I would not sweat it if I ever had to do one again.

I had a uterine polyp and one completely blocked tube.  I had also forgotten to take ibuprofen before the proceedure, and they suggest that you do that.  I had slight spotting, and very little cramps afterwrads, I could have easily gone to work (mine was at the end of the day, so I didn't go back).

Mine was also performed at a radiologists office (for the one who asked).
