Baby Names

Harper?

DH and I are loving the name Harper for a boy. I know it is "gender neutral" but I'm just wondering what your thoughts on it are? Too girly for a little boy? Or is it ok? We both love the vintage feel of the name.

Re: Harper?

  • These days, it's ALL girl to me. Even if it is originally a boy name, I could never use it on a boy nowadays.  And I'd actually side eye someone who did use it on a boy. It's just so on trend right now to use for girls.

  • I'm not a fan of the name for either sex.
  • I tend to automatically think girl with this one but the only Harper I actually know is a boy and he is the cutest!
  • Sorry, all girl right now
  • I like it for a girl. You can "fight back" to make it a boys name if you want but people are probably going to think it's a girls name for quite some time still.

  • I think it's gone to the girls which is so weird to me since I don't think it sounds very pretty at all.

I think it is odd too, it seems like a pretty masculine name but oh well!

  • I know it may technically be unisex but I've only ever heard it on a girl and these days it's a pretty trendy girl name so he would probably be the only boy Harper he comes across. That would be a deal breaker for me.

  • So far I've only heard it on girls but I agree it does seem more masculine. I'm not a huge fan of it on either sex either though; the whole last name as first names trend is overdone IMO.

  • I think it is super trendy and dislike it for either sex. Its a last name. And even though I dont find it feminine, I've only seen this used on girls so I think most would assume he was a girl based on the name.
  • I don't care for this name for either sex but I actually know one baby boy named Harper and TONS of girls.

  • It's all masculine to me, so I say go for it. This is one of those names I just don't understand how it became a girls name. It's not feminine at all.

It's very masculine to me, I like it OK for a boy.
  • It is DHs first choice for a girl... While I am not sure yet about that, it definitely screams GIRL to me these days.
