I was curious since most of us are in our third trimester. Have any of you had or have had a glass of wine lately? I've heard one glass is okay I do not know how far apart these glasses must be but it's not like I'm going to go on a drinking binge. I'd just like to relax like before with a nice glass of wine at the end of the day. A cold glass of moscato with some chopped up strawberries would be the best rite meow!
I'm totally fine with it personally. I just don't love wine haha. There was an interesting study that came out concluding that moderate wine and beer intake did not poorly affect kids over the first 7 years of life and even helped them mentally.
I agree. Its just taboo in the US which is a shame. My husband and I had fully planned that I would continue to enjoy wine throughout my pregnancy but alas, we did not get pregnant easily and were on our fifth insemination - next stop IVF by the time it finally happened. Due to our struggles, I figured I couldn't take even moderate drinking as a possibility. I sometimes think maybe during my next pregnancy because I hate buying into the stigma, but we shall see if it was just primary infertility or if we'll have a part II - secondary infertility. I've had no other problems this pregnancy (no GD, no contractions, no high blood pressure, etc) so I know I would have been fine with a glass of wine a couple nights a week to relax. Enjoy. I'm kinda jealous.

I've also read about how it can be a helpful mental stimulation for the little one. Hence why I was curious. I suppose ill ask my doctor in this coming Fridays visit. I'm a totally healthy mommy to be no high blood pressure, passed all my glucose test. Everything is good in my health department. So will see what she says.
I heard a little bit is okay but for me personally I just haven't. I was craving a class of wine so bad though for a couple months and even when I was offered a sip I didn't want to.. Just cause there really is not enough evidence to how much alcohol will make an effect and I seem to consider my toothpaste and mouth wash and hand sanitizer as alcohol into my blood stream.. I know sounds silly lol! But I also got diagnosed with GD so I don't think it would be a good idea for me! You should see what your doctor says, he may think its absolutely fine to indulge in a very small glass every now and again! Which I'm sure would make you feel better doing so if your doc says its fine!!
I probably had 3 or 4 drinks wine or beer during my first pregnancy and double that in my second including the few I had in my last few weeks on doctors orders because of so many false labor contractions.
This time around I've been on antibiotics nearly my entire pregnancy for sinus and gum infections, so I've had very little... But as I understand it, even up to 3 or 4 glasses of wine a month is fine during pregnancy!
Yep. I do. A glass a week. Usually on a Saturday night. Sometimes I'll have a beer instead, just depending on my mood. I dr said its fine. I have read many things stating a glass or two a week is actually good for baby. I stick to one per week, and it helps relax me, which is also good for baby
If my heartburn wasn't absolute killer, I would definitely be indulging in the occasional glass of wine! Unfortunately I don't see the point of drinking something that will bring me so much after I have finished! Although I did manage to enjoy a cider last week without terrible heartburn afterwards!
Red wine, of course, would be your best wine option. But...the occasional small glass is fine. I plan to have that or a glass of Guiness starting in a couple weeks.
I'm personally not comfortable with it, why even risk that it could possibly do something to LO. There is evidence either way so it's a personal choice. Also, my ob is against any alcohol at all.
To me though, it just seems selfish, there is no reason to drink. And this is coming from someone who was a regular drinker.
I will enjoy a glass of wine or beer every now and then, usually with dinner. It's kind of a tease for me though since I always end up wanting more than one. ::mobile smilie::
I haven't had any alcohol since finding out that I was pregnant. I used to have a couple of drinks with my hubby every Friday night (and I miss it alot!) but now I don't think it's worth it. I can wait 9 months!
I have had a glass of wine here or there. The problem is I get this terrible craving for it but then I have horrible acid reflux after I drink it so its not worth it Looking forward to sitting down and enjoying a few glasses with no reflux after this baby comes
I've always been a BIG wine drinker. I stopped as soon as I found out I was pregnant, didn't touch it in the first trimester, had an occasional glass in the 2nd trimester, and now that I'm in the 3rd, I have a single glass of Cabernet on Friday evenings to wind me down from the work week. If I already feel relaxed, I skip it. All ok'd by the doc.
I have had 3-4 glasses of wine between 24 weeks and now. I find that it relaxes me and one glass is enough to satisfy the craving. I don't see anything wrong with an occasional glass of wine..
I've had a sip here and there and a total of maybe 3 glasses? (not all at once of course!). Last night was our 6 year wedding anniversary and I had a quarter of a glass of wine before we went out to dinner. I've never been pregnant this far into the summer, but even sipped slowly over an hour it just added into the regular overheated/out of breath feelings I get so even if it was suddenly proved to be 100% okay I don't think I do it much.
2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14
I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
I have an occasional glass of wine (usually with or right after dinner)... a glass of red. It's heavenly. I don't do it often, but my doc said to use best judgement and an occasional glass is fine.
I've had two half glasses over the whole course of this pregnancy. What was funny was that baby went crazy both times. I'm not sure if he loved it or hated it, but he was certainly more active for about half an hour after drinking it.
BFP #1 8/25/12 EDD 4/28/13 Blighted Ovum, D&C 9/20/12 at 8w6d. I'll always remember the first one. My baby Grace.

I've had a sip here and there but oh my gosh, I miss it badly. I think I may indulge when I'm further along and have a glass, but a sip here and there has sort of held me over. I miss my cab, merlot and val though. Sigh.

Am I the only one bothered by the implication that if you'd gotten knocked up on a whim you'd be totally cool risking FAS, but because you paid and worked for this baby you won't risk it?
Everyone has their own opinion on alcohol during pregnancy, but to acknowledge the risk and then twice say you would risk it if you got pregnant easily seems bizarre to me.
I have not, although I hear it is fine. I got incredibly drunk when I was told I was miscarrying at 5 weeks (I wasn't) so I have some leftover guilt over that even though it was really early and most people wouldn't even know they were pregnant.
We also don't have any wine right now and I hate to buy a bottle for just one glass.
Just random sips of other people's. I personally don't see any major issues with an occasional glass, but I also haven't had it in my house during this pg, so it hasn't been readily available.
January 2009: Goodbye TR (13 weeks)
February 2010: Welcome DD1!
March 2011: Welcome DD2!
I don't drink while pg. It is unknown how etoh affects fetal development, and while a glass here or there is probably fine, it's just not worth it to me.
I would also advise pp's to cautiously interpret any literature re: so called benefits of alcohol on child development. The fact is there are ZERO randomized controlled trials on drinking in pregnancy and child development. And there will never be any due to ethical reasons regarding the potential iatrogenic effects of giving a research participant alcohol. In the absence of an RCT, you only have correlation, not causation, when it comes to any so called benefits of in utero alcohol on later functioning.
I've had the occasional sip of my husband's beer but that's it. DH did bring me home a bottle of alcohol free wine recently so now I have a glass of that occasionally. It does contain a little alcohol but it's less than .5%.
I have also heard it is safe to have an occasional glass of wine or a beer but I would not feel comfortable doing it. I have also already come this far - I can stick it out for the remainder of the pregnancy and have alcohol after the baby comes.I only have like 8 more weeks to go. I have my days where a beer would be awesome to wind down with, but I do not need it to get by. I just have an ice cream instead lol.
I knew a girl who drank while pregnant and her son had serious mental and physical defects. Now granted she did other stuff as well. I just would not feel right about risking anything at all.

I'm glad this was mentioned. Thanks, Cleo!
I have read a lot of reports on both sides of the issue, and earlier in my pregnancy I had felt like it would be SO LONG until I could have a drink with my DH on a warm evening, but it really hasn't been an issue. I have had a couple sips (literally, 2 that I can recall) of DH's beer if he finds a new craft brew he likes, but other than that, I haven't felt the need. I've enjoyed a glass or two of Fre wine (dealcoholized wine) and half a bottle of O'Doul's a couple times, but otherwise, have stuck to water and other beverages that won't make my reflux any worse than it is.
It's a tough subject to tackle which is clear when you talk to 5 different OBs and receive 5 different opinions about it. I personally have an OB who is a self-proclaimed purist in those respects, which makes me feel very comfortable with her other advice regarding what is safe and not safe during pregnancy. I also have friends whose OB has said a glass in the evening with food in the third trimester is fine.
I haven't had anything to drink this entire pregnancy and I don't plan on it. I really don't see why it is that hard for people to stop drinking while pregnant. It is only nine months. It's just not worth the risk, and I would feel guilty if anything at all bad happened and i would blame myself.
My husband wouldn't be ok with me drinking anyway.
I've had a few glasses here and there. My friend had a glass every Sunday night during her third pregnancy and her little girl is perfect! I say go for it!
Nope. I don't drink at all. My ob said there is no evidence that it won't hurt the baby and she also said that to possible one woman might be able to drink daily with no ill effects while others might have only a little and have issues, so I just don't take the risk. I had some beer dip the other day which had 1/4 cup for the entire batch and that was enough for me!

Just can't do it until I am at my due date or close to it. I had a glass once in a while when I was overdue with DS1.
I just take sips of DH's whenever he has some.
