C Section Mommas: Recovery Q

How long after your surgery did it take you to have a BM?  Were you able to stay fairly regular after the first one post surgery?

Re: C Section Mommas: Recovery Q

  • It took me 48 hours. I took stool softeners twice a day for 2 weeks, it's been 3 weeks now and I'm almost back to normal.

  • My csection was on a Friday and I passed gas on Saturday night. I took stool softener starting right after my surgery until I had my first BM which was on Tuesday. It didn't hurt at all but I stopped taking the stool softeners and although I stayed regular it did hurt every once in awhile when I went to the bathroom for the next week or two

  • I had surgery on a Monday and had my first BM that Friday. I was taking stool softners as well as eating Fiber One brownies, I swear by those brownies, they kept me regular before and during my pregnancy!

  • I had a BM the next day. The hospital was giving me a stool softener 3x a day so I stayed pretty regular. I just recently ran out at home and have found it harder to have BM

It took me 4 days to poop and I needed a suppository to do so. I'm 3 weeks PP and take stool softener and fiber Konsyl brand daily and haven't had any problems since.
  • I had mine 3 days postop. I was having horrible gas/constipation pains the day prior and ended up taking 2 doses of milk of magnesia, which I was very grateful for! I kept taking my stool softners twice daily until I stopped the oxycodone. Was back to regular just prior to the 2 week mark

  • I had a blocked bowel so my experience was abnormal. I had surgery on a Wednesday morning and did not have a BM or even pass any gas until Monday morning. The pain was so bad that I never even felt pain from the surgery itself. I did everything they said to do to prevent this - was up and walking as soon as I was allowed, walked around often, took my stool softeners, etc. At the hospital they tried everything to help move me along - milk of magnesia, suppositories, warm prune juice... I eventually wound up on an all clear liquid diet. When i finally did go i could hardly stand to eat anything but easy to digest, bland foods. It was about three weeks before I could eat normally again. I was hospitalized for two extra days.

That sounds horrific!  How did you end up with a blocked bowel?

  • I think it was 4 or 5 days and it hurt like a mother. I was taking milk if magnesia and eating prunes but was really constipated from the meds. After that things were still pretty backed up so I kept eating a few prunes every day and that did the trick. I kept that up for a few weeks because I wanted to keep things moving.

  • I had my c-section on a Monday, was passing gas the 4 days in the hospital, and by Friday I felt like I had to go but couldn't. I was able to go a bit on Saturday but really had a good one on Sunday, so almost a week. I've been taking the Colace up until just 2 days ago, and I am 13 days pp today.

  • I had my first BM 4 days pp. I am not about10 days pp and still not regular, but I was never really to begin with. So I am still on stool softeners and strongly considering taking laxatives.
