EBF on demand

For those of you EBF on demand, at what point (age) should I start to introduce a schedule to the feedings?  Or is that something that just isn't necessary at any point?  LO is 7 weeks today.

We never had a schedule with DD and don't plan on one this time either.

I don't see a schedule working out with this little guy. I mean, I don't eat at scheduled times every day so it doesn't seem logical to expect him to.

I think on demand means no schedule. But, DD is already on her own schedule. She has her last feeding around 12-1am, wakes up around 5, eats again at 9:30-10:30, then again at 2, 5, 8-9pm.

I plan on getting us into a good routine over the next month. DD really thrives on routine, so getting DS into a good routine wi be best for our family. I will always feed a hungry baby but I hope to get a set wake time and bed rime and feeding routine in place.

I dont think you are supposed to try for a schedule til at least 3 mo, if at all. My guy will be fed on demand. I go back to work in two months so he won't get boob on demand all day but will get bottle when he wants while I'm away.

    This

We try to do a routine rather than schedule but ultimately they are changing so fast these first few weeks that even the routine doesn't always work. I BF on demand because I have no choice. Charlie makes it known when she wants to eat.

I never implemented a set schedule with either of my kids, but they pretty much feel into their own. Some days they wanted to feed more often, but I could plan around feedings pretty well (if I needed to run to the store, etc)

At this point my son is only a month old.  I pretty much feed him when he seems hungry, but my focus is on trying to get him to get a full feed instead of just snack so that he is getting the hind milk and staying satisfied for longer.  That being said, we don't really have a set schedule, he just eats about every 2 1/2-3 1/2 hours depending on when and if he is hungry.

As another pp mentioned, my first son did really well when we had a set routine in terms of feeding and napping.  It was always flexible, but it was really important to him to have  pretty set naps, so that sort of put his feedings on a schedule as well.  We didn't really fall into that routine until he was 2-3 months old though.  I just followed the 1-2 hour window of being awake and falling asleep that is in Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby.   This helped A LOT with my first son who was a really fussy baby.  DS2 is much calmer!
