Ideas for dealing with unsolicited advice?

Anyone else find unsolicited parenting advice annoying?

My MIL gave me "advice" on everything from napping to doing laundry after my baby was born.   I swallowed it at first because I hadn't found my feet yet as a mother and felt insecure.

But, I am going to see her next week and want to put a stop to it in a nice unoffensive way to keep the family peace.

What would you say to someone ( whom you want to maintain a good relationship with) who gave you unwanted parenting tips?

Thanks!

I always say something like the pediatrician recommended... or I have this amazing book that told me to.... If I flat out disagree or want to do something differently from their advice. Otherwise if it's just random advice I say something like, I think what I'm doing is working so far, but since babies change so often I'll remember your advice if this doesn't work anymore.

I'm not great at turning down advice cause I'm still in the unconfident wtf am I doing phase. GL

My MIL does the very same thing and it gets under my skin so bad. I'm hoping its the post partum hormones lol. Anyway, I use the pediatrician said line with her when its medical and just nod or mention a book or other baby reference when it's not. At the end of the day I'm going to do what I feel is best for my DD so her advice goes out the window most of the time lol. I just am bothered that it bothers me so much. Really hoping this changes soon.

Nod and smile. In one ear and out the other.

But I can totally relate. It sucks.

Just stand your ground and tell her we are doing it this way because it is what we feel comfortable with. Or as PP said, blame it on the pedi.
