Stay at Home Moms

Wow you're brave!

Said another mom to me at the park today. She asked when I was due and I said tomorrow. She looked shocked and said," wow! You're brave. I can't imagine being out of the house so close to my due date."

What am I supposed to do...sit around the house all day waiting for this kid to make an appearance? With a 3 year old? Nope. So much easier on my sanity to just sit at the park while DS plays in the wading pool.

  • I hated that. I went to a holiday work party and got that from nearly everyone.

  • Wow, how are you almost ready to have that baby?!?! Time flies. :)

I had a maternity formal gown & heels bought AND booked a hair & make-up appointment on my due date to attend the Cars 2 movie premiere. Too bad N decided to come 4 days early. :(

People are so weird. It's not like baby is for sure going to come on your EDD. How do people not know this?

  • Not to mention..what about working women? I would've worked right up until I went into labor if it had meant more time at home after baby.

Yeah that was pretty much what I did until I really started getting uncomfortable. Clients would worry as I took a leash attached to a very large dog. My co-workers would joke that I should go on leave already. Like come on now...I can still walk lol.

  • What?? Like, the baby might fall right out in the wood chips? Comments like that are so annoying... What could be better for you (and for naturally inducing labour) than getting out and moving? *rolls eyes*

  • Erm... ?  Like the kid is going to accidentally fall out of your vagina, or something?  What does it MEEAN?

  • People can be so weird. Everyone was on my case about being moh at my friend's wedding at 38 weeks. They acted like I was endangering my child. I guess some people still think we should be sequestered at home.

  • Lol the one redeeming thing about going to 42 weeks with DS2 was the way people reacted when they'd ask when I was due and I'd be like "oh, last week." I was out and about more then than ever because I was trying to get the baby out!

I will never understand why people say such stupid things to pregnant women. I once got "I would hate to be you right now" when I was 41 weeks with DS1. That's a really good way to get your face rearranged.
    I love you!

    hahaha Yes, ditto! ;)

  • I'm going to my nephew's Christening this weekend at 35 weeks. It's only a 3.5 hour drive and DH will be driving. My mom has asked repeatedly if I'm sure it's a good idea.

  • I think I went out everyday shopping, going to the casino, out to lunch after my EDD. My inlaws were in town and going out was better than staring at each other. I almost went out to lunch the day I started contraction because at that time they weren't super time able but decided against it because I didn't know how quickly I would progress.

  • After you have the baby, they say the same thing when you have two with you, because apparently it takes courage to leave the house with more than one kid?  Or "looks like you've got your hands full".  Thanks stranger, helpful.  Yay for due dates though and new squishy baby soon!

A few weeks ago I ran into an old friend at a party and she goes "Wow youve got balls, I refused to be seen in public when I was that pregnant."

    Um... thank you?

  • Ya, I went to a painting party two weeks before my due date and they made a big deal out of it. I did end up going into labor the next day but it would have been ok, I would have made it to the hospital.

Didn't you know a vagina is like a slip n slide when it comes to birthing babies?

I think people these days expect moms to get induced the second they're late...At least that's what a lot of people think in my area.

OK, well I hope you're in labor and not reading this.  But really I would want to do anything but sit around and wait!  I actually went to the DMV WHILE I was in labor.  I was supposed to be induced on a Tuesday.  My husband started his leave on Monday - he couldn't take the suspense during his commute any more and it would give us a day to get everything finished up.  We had recently moved and wanted to get all of our paperwork done.  Naturally labor started early that morning!

    If only :)

And yes, my babies seem to get good and comfy in my ute.  I always enjoyed when people asked when I was due and I told them last week.  It was like a foreign concept to most people.

When I didn't want to deal with the conversation I would just say "any time now".  I swear, people lose their brains around pregnant women.
