I'm at a loss as to what to do anymore. My DS#2 has been extremely fussy pretty much his whole life. He spent his first 10 days in the NICU, and within a few days of being home has these bouts of inconsolable crying that would last hours. He'd arch his back, gag, etc. He was started on reflux meds. After a few days he seemed much better. After a few weeks he was back to the nonstop screaming, arching, congestion, etc. After 3 calls to the pedi and 2 appts, they upped his reflux meds. Again good for a few days, then the symptoms returned. Called the pedi again, long story short they said there was nothing they could do, got annoyed, tried Nutramigen formula (per rec of a friend who is a NP).
The nutramigen was like a miracle for about 2 weeks. Then again he's back to the nonstop screaming. I can't take it anymore. I feel like anytime he gets a little better, it lasts for a few days, then we're right back where we started. I'm at a loss. My 2yo runs wild all day because I'm constantly trying to soothe the baby. I don't feel comfortable taking him to the park, pool or anything because I feel like I can't keep a good eye on him.
I have an appt with the new pediatrician the 1st week of july, but I don't know if there's anything I can do in the meantime. I'm ready to lose it. My 2yo is napping, the baby is surprisingly quietly in is swing and I'm sitting here on the verge of tears. I've called my old pediatrician about him like 1-2x a week for the past month and every time they tell me his reflux meds are at a therapeutic dose and there isn't much else they can do. So So So frustrated. I just want my poor baby to feel better. And to be able to spend some time with my 2yo. I feel like he's always getting pushed aside. :-(
Re: losing my mind
All of this. My DS1 had awful reflux and only responded to a high dose of Prevacid and we had to literally load his bottles with rice cereal to keep him from spewing up half of every feeding. If your pedi isn't making any recommendations then I would definitely try seeing someone else and/or a pediatric GI. Hopefully this new pediatrician will be more proactive than your current one!
he's on Zantac. His current pedi was reluctant to even prescribe that. I asked about a med change, a GI referral and they just think he's fine. No testing or anything. Every time I bring him into the pedi he's happy, so I think they think I'm crazy. That is why I am in the process of switching pedis. Would you call the new pedi and ask for a "sick" visit before our first scheduled appt?
Good to know, thank you. I will definitely look into this.
