I am used to getting in at 9, but considering a new job and i would probably have to be there at 8.
I drop DS off at daycare which takes almost 1/2 hour, then another 30 minutes to get into work. I'm not sure if i can handle getting up and out of the house at 7 every morning.
Am i just lazy? Ha ha
We have two shifts where I work - a 5:45a-5:45p and a 5:45p - 5:45a. We rotate every 3 months. I am on the 5:45p-5:45a now. I get to work around 5:30p to relieve the day shift. I am not a morning person, so on days, I get there at like 5:40am. It stinks.
I work 7-4. I get up at 5AM. It's not bad once you get used to it. I LOVE sleeping in, but I don't really get to do that any more because of DS anyway.
I'm out of the house at 7 every day. I work from 7:30-4:30. It's a great schedule. I have a short commute though, 10 mins. DD's daycare is right next door to my hospital as well. You can do it! Would it mean more free hours at night? I would definitely do that!
I work 9-5 but am on email before and after work and on weekends and sometimes have to work on projects outside of work time...my workplace has more of an 8am start time but before I even agreed to interview I told my boss I would need hour flexibility bc I do 90% of drop off and pick up and other child care stuff and with the commute time I would be absolutely miserable trying to get in at 8... It actually would make me look for a new job if that were the expectation for me, so I make sure to do my job well and be available pretty much all the time by phone or email to compensate.
I work Mon,Tues,Thurs,Fri 7am-4:30pm and then from home Wed from 6-10am. I am very luck to have this flexibility...I love it because I am home with both kids by 5pm (day care in on the way home). That gives us play/fun time before dinner!
Before DS, my schedule was 8-4:30. Now I'm at work from 7-3:30. It's super early, but I miss a lot of traffic going in earlier. So I'm up by 5, we're all out the door by 6:15. I go straight to work and DH drops off DS at daycare since his commute is only 10 minutes.
ETA: It also works out because DS is naturally up before 6am anyway. So it's not like we have to wake him or anything. Plus I get extra time in the afternoon with him.

My office opens at 8, I try to arrive by 7:45, so we are out the door by 7-7:15 every day to do daycare drop off. You get no sympathy from me
DD #1 passed away in January 2011 at 14 days old due to congenital heart disease
DD#2 lost in January 2012 at 23 weeks due to anhydramnios caused by a placental abruption
I beg my husband to leave that early. I'm ready by then and so are the kids but then he drags his rear and we just waste time. Today we left at eight which is just dumb considering it takes us 90 minutes to do both drop offs and get to work. I hate fighting against his inefficiency.
It is sad but when he isn't around in the am, we leave much earlier.
My hours are typically 8-4:30 but I try to arrive at work no later than 7:45am. I don't have a long commute so I try to leave the house by 7:20am. I get up at 6:00am and my husband and I get all four kids up and ready to go and we're out the door by 7:20am. It's hectic but I can't bring myself to get up any earlier.
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
Before kids DH and I would commute together. I would either be in the office by 7:30, or I'd skip my shower at home and he'd drop me off at the gym by 6:45, and I'd work out, get ready, and walk 2 blocks to my office by 8:15 or 8:30.
Now, DH leaves the house by 6 and gets to work by 6:30, then he leaves by 4 to be home by 4:45 to relieve the nanny. I leave the house by 8 and get in by 9, don't take a lunch, and leave at 5 to be home at 6. I typically WFH on Wed and Fri.
I miss getting in early. I'd get so much done because most people don't get in here until 9.
My hours are 8-5, I get up at 6 and leave the house by 7:20 am (it's a 15 min. drive to DC and then another 15 min to work) I get to work 7:50 every morning.

What the heck do you do? Those are some long shifts! Do you work five days a week?
I started at 8:30 to 5 but then it drifted to 9 to 5 with me working through lunch each day. My whole department is a 9 to 5 department so it works out.
I am here at 8 (and usually well before my coworkers without young kids). I get up by 5:30 to get at least one workout video in, shower, dress/makeup get the child up and leave the house by 7:30. Daycare is about 5 minutes away and drop off takes about 5 minutes (I am lucky in that I *knock on wood* do not get the daily daycare drop off meltdown). I need to have here there by 7:45 so she can get breakfast. Work is about a 10-15 minute drive.

I'm up by 5, and leave the house at 6:15, start work at 6:30, and head out by 3:30. DH does the daycare drop off. I've always been an early riser though, and works been very flexible (I'm in a 9-6 industry) so I can see the baby while she's awake.. Getting home at 5:30 or 6 when she goes to bed at 7:30 would have just made me bitter.
DH does DC drop off which makes a huge difference on my mornings. I pick up and do 95 of DD's evening care which is great for him!
We're planning on doing the opposite. I will do drop offs and DH will pick up since he can technically leave anytime after 5 (though he normally works til 6) and I work until 6 and have a longer commute.
I work 8-5 to make sure I can pick up DD by 6 (though it was 5:45 at her last preschool). But I don't to morning drop-off, so I leave a little before 7:30 and get to work a little before 8. Everything is doable if you put your mind to it. (I mean, I woke up at 5:15 today to get on my treadmill, which feels crazy because I'm new to it. But it's doable.)
At my current school district, I have to leave my house about 7 am, but I do not do drop off. My husband drops off and I do pick up. I pick the kids up at about 4:15 pm. I am applying for a new teaching job that would make me leave at 6:45 am, but I would be home at 3:15. I am hoping I get the new schedule.
I'm supposed to be at work at 7:30 to be ready to teach at 8, but I'm so very ADD that I need to be at work by 6:45-7 to be truly ready. But I'd have to leave by 6. So day care is difficult.
Wow great responses! Thanks everyone! 8am isn't bad but I think it is the daycare drop off that eats an hour in the morning. DH gets to work at 7, and is gone before we even get up. Sucks I have to get to work based off his work hours but there is no way he can go in later.
Before the baby, 7:30-4:30. First 4 months back to work, 8-5 (based on DS sleeping schedule. Little guy was STTN and I wasn't about to mess with that). Changed positions within the company and now 7-4. I do like getting in earlier (though getting up at 5:15 sucks) because I have more time with my guy in the evenings (he goes to bed after nursing at 7).

This. I leave the house at 6:15. I think back to when I thought getting up at 6:30 was early and laugh. I wish.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

This Cluttered Life
At my former school - I was out the door by 6:15, LO was at daycare by 6:30 and I was at school by 7. I had kids at my classroom door by 7:15
You will get used to it. I wouldn't not take a job because of its start time, but that is just me.
A kiss he will never forget- Disney World 2014
Up at 5:45, out the door by 6:45am.
Yes, it sucks but I also lump it in the you gotta do what you gotta do catagory.
