Apparently we had a power outage 2 days ago.  The breaker in the garage tripped to the freezer and all my breast milk is gone.  All of it.  Over 300 ounces. 

I am only pumping about 4 ounces a day.  How do I go about weaning him to either cows milk or formula?  I have about 12 ounces of breast milk in the freezer inside. Can I just switch him?  Do I mix half and half?  

I'm so upset I can barely think.  This happened a few months ago and I lost about 100 ounces but was able to pump more and make up a little. UGH. I'm nearly one month shy of a year.  I guess I should be happy I made it this far but it hurts.  The hours and hours and hours put in. FML.

    Oh no! I am so, so sorry to hear this! I would probably talk to your pedi to see if you can switch over to WCM early so you don't have to make 2 switches in 2 months, but that's just MHO.

    O man hun. I am so sorry. That sucks! I would talk to your pedi on how they think is the beast to start weaning to milk.

    That really sucks! You have made it 10 months though and that's quite an accomplishment! My DS has been self weaning for a couple of weeks and I decided that switching to WCM was a better choice than going to formula then having to make another switch. So what I have been doing is adding in a bottle or 2 of milk and still breast feeding as much as he wants. He's been doing great with it. No tummy problems or anything.

    Ohhhh wow I am so so sorry! I cringed at the thought. I'm at about 4-5oz a day too.

    DS refused to drink formula any way/ any type.  Since he is so close to a year I decided to try WCM last weekend in a sippy and he did fine- which was perfect b/c this past week I was only getting 10 oz pumping 3x a day (he drinks 12oz while I am at work).  Instead of stressing I gave one bottle of WCM and two bottles BM.  The first day my MIL said DS noticed a difference b/c he did not drink it as fast-BUT he did not refuse it, and over the next two days he drank it just as quick and normal as he does the BM bottles. DS has transitioned super easy, any he still nurses at night and weekends.  It is so nice to not stress about not having enough and just pumping whatever, and supplementing

    Just do half and half one bottle a day, then two bottles a day, then three, then four. Definitely just go to WCM.

    I don't pump and this kills me! I know how much work all you pumpers have put in, I have great respect for you. I can't even fathom how disappointed you must be. :(

    I am so sorry. You made it this far, which is amazing.

    You could call your ped but I bet they will tell you to go to WCM.

    Oh god, Buona. I pretty much yelled, "NOOOOOOO!" when I read this. I can't even imagine. You set that freezer on fire, I don't care if the power outage wasn't its fault. 

    You do whatever you want today, try to head off the PTSD, lol.

    I would be in tears!  I'm so sorry!  That's a true nightmare come true right there!

    As far as switching, I think I just went cold turkey for ODS.  I can't remember clearly though...

    Are you SURE it's gone? Was it cold at all? If there was even 1 crystal of frozen BM in the bag it's still good, and if it was still cold I think it's OK. I hope you didn't dump it. :(

    I went through each and every bag and was able to save about 50 ounces.  The majority of the milk was at the top of the freezer in bins, but they were almost nearly warm.   :(   I'm glad to have the 50 ounces- I think I will start mixing WCM in with the breast milk, then just switch him once I run out.  I still breast feed in the AMs and PMs.

    For funsies I did some math and 6 months of milk, pumping about an hour a day--- figuring how much I get paid.... it's like $8600 worth of my time. LOL.  That's a lot!

    Sigh.
