Spoiling/being held

My LO is 5 weeks old. I know "it is impossible to spoil him". With that said, he will not nap or stay asleep during the day unless he is being held. He will sleep in the PnP bassinet during the night, so I am thankful for that. But no matter where I put him during the day, he always wakes up. Any suggestions? Should i just get a wrap and wear him? I love to snugglebut would also like to be able to set him down every once in a while...you know, to pee or eat. Sorry if it eats my punctuation...mobile bumping.

Re: Spoiling/being held

  • Do you swaddle at night? If so, try swaddling for naps, too... my LO fights sleep unless I wrap him up. Good luck!

  • Wearing him is a good idea. Or try laying him on his side. I was in the same boat with my middle baby and that really, really helped. With this baby, once he's really asleep, can lay him in his vibrating chair and he'll sleep.

That being said, i had to hold my first for all his naps until 7 months old! Some babe are snugglers! Good luck!

  • I would try swaddling. When I set lo down she gets startled and wakes up. I also have this sleeve filled with rice that I lay across her so she thinks im holding her. good luck

I second the swaddling or wearing. M is a big cuddler so we can usually buy some time with wearing. Personally we try to reserve swaddling for bedtime only, but it doesn't hurt to try.

    That's a really neat idea!!
  • my LO has been the same way until my SIL gave me this sound machine/vibration thing from her bassinet. The last 2 days have been heaven... he sleeps without being held during the day!! The vibration seems to soothe him AND block out sounds so he sleeps more deeply. He's starting to sleep longer at night too!

    It's from this Bassinet style - https://www.toysrus.com/buy/babies-r-us-free-shipping-store/play-yards/summer-infant-mother-s-touch-soothing-bassinet-lil-ladybug-26010-10930495

but it fits my Arms Reach Co-sleeper as if it was made for it! ( the color even matches too!) Not sure where you can get something similar for separate

you could try this vibrating mattress pad: https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=18723786&prodFindSrc=search

  • I agreee with the swaddling or wearing. B is a big cuddler so we can usually buy some time with wearing. Personally we try to reserve swaddling for bedtime only, but it doesn't hurt to try. LO just started sleeping in her swing for longer naps too.
  • My baby takes his best and longest nap all wrapped up in his Halo sleepsack swaddle.  I sometimes swaddle him for a nap in the morning, or sometimes he sleeps on my lap or in the car sear while we are out.  In the afternoon we are always home for nap/quiet time for the older boys, so he sleeps in his bassinet with the shades closed and fan on while swaddled.  Usually he'll sleep 2-4+ hours that way in the afternoon.  Although they are likely still too little for a true routine, it might help to have some consistency.  And swaddle!

  • My LO is the same way. So, I use a baby k'tan, ssc, or woven wrap. She takes 2-3 great naps this way throughout the day and I just do what I would normally do (vacuum, clean, laundry, dishes, prep dinner, eat, or even sleep sitting up in the chair). Works for us for now. Even if we have a bad habit, it won't always be this way so I'm not worried. I know her dad won't be wearing her across the stage when she graduates from preschool. :-)
