updated...colic?

Have any of your babies been diagnosed with colic? It's basically after the pedi rules everything else out right?

C has been inconsolable since 4 am. This happened saturday as well. Crying and wide awake for 7 hours! I can't come up with anything other than i ate something that upset his stomach. Headed to the Dr now. Neither one of us can handle this any longer.

We just left the Dr and I'm really annoyed. She didn't say anything about colic but basically has no idea what's wrong. She said his one ear looks a little bit red. Normally she wouldn't think anything of it but since he's obviously upset and she can't find anything wrong with him, she prescribed an antibiotic. I hate how some doctors throw antibiotics at everything. It's his stomach, I know it is. Basically she was no help.

I just want to wish you luck. I fear we are headed down that road as well. I'm crossing my fingers for both of us that it's just growth spurts or something else totally benign, and that it will pass quickly.

Try the chiropractor. I know it sounds weird but think about how much trauma their little bodies go through during birth. DD was spitting up a lot at first and DH adjusted her at three hours old and she was much better. She gets adjusted once a week.

Our family friend is a chiropractor and told me to bring him in. I may go tomorrow.

  • My pediatrician doesn't believe in colic and said there must be something causing the crying. With DD1 is was reflux. We used Zantac and the crying almost completely stopped.

Good luck and don't be afraid to question a diagnosis.
  • our baby was diagnosed with "colic" although I think its more to do with cluster feeding, and being wide awake at night.

Dr. recommended to buy a wedge for her head at night, so its elevated and buy maylox, and give your LO 1/4 of a teaspoon.

I'm sorry to hear she couldn't help you any. And I agree about anitbiotics. Good luck. I hope your chiropractor friend can help more. We were supposed to go to ours today, but because I didn't sleep at all, I didn't feel comfortable driving, so we're going Wednesday.

This. DS had horrible colic. His dr prescribed Zantac and it helped tremendously. It probably would have stopped it completley except i'm convinced that DS is a very high demand baby with a type a personality. So the remainder of the crying and fussing he did was probably just due to his personality. But anyway, Gripe Water and gas drops worked alright for interim remodies. But the Zantac would be worth asking about. We are taking DD in soon to put her on some since she is starting to show similar signs (Arching her back, spitting up, restless sleep, and fussyness).

  • Our pedi thinks DS2 has colic. It starts around 8 every night and can last until 12 but usually only lasts an hour or so. That hour is hard! We use a yoga ball to bounce him because it is the only thing that works. He likes the swing but it doesn't work all the time. Gripe water helps too.

Mine only cried like that and refused to sleep for ear infectionnights were fine but days were ok.nbsp; So I would definitely give the antibiotics a try first, with some motrin, or did they give you ear numbing drops?nbsp; If not I'd call and see if they'd give you some ear numbing drops.nbsp; I think they are pretty safe for small babies.nbsp; Be sure to warm them up first, but if the ear numbing drops and motrin helps with the crying and pain then you have a better answer, eh?

He was fussy sat then again Monday and was great sunday..could that still be an ear infection?

  • My baby has recently  become very fussy as well.  Maybe it's an age/growth spurt thing?  I hope you can find him some relief! (and get some sleep!)
