How did you deliver your twins?
Hi ladies,
Just curious, how did you deliver your twins. C-section or vaginally? Did you plan vaginally and have to have a C-section or delivery baby A vaginally and baby B via C-section? Or just straight up plan a C-section. If you delivered vaginally were both babies head down or did baby B get flipped or extracted?
My practice seems to be pushing a C-section no matter what and I'm just curious what others experiences were with this. I delivered DD vaginally and hoped the same for these two, but am not feeling the support. I plan to do what ever is most safe, but I feel frustration that I met with the specialist who seemed very positive about vaginally as long as baby A was head down to then meeting with the dr,'s that don't seem to be on board with it at all...

The following stats/protocols have been shared with me:
I can attempt vag if A is head down. B positioning is less important bc B can flip after A is out.
If B falls into position after A is out, no one will rush to get B out as long as everyone is doing okay.
It all depends on who's on call when I deliver. Some won't do vag regardless, but 2 attendings are always around and chances are, one would let me attempt vag if A is head down.
No one will let me attempt vag if A Is breech.
90 of the time if A is born vaginally, B will be as well. Regardless, delivery of all twins is in the OR. An epi is strongly rec but not required.
I would 100 attempt a vag delivery, but I don't think A will cooperate.

This is petty much me. I'm not sure my OB would have been as relaxed about B being "where ever" if A was in position, but since A has NEVER been in position I never once thought I had a chance at vag after 20 weeks. C-section is scheduled for next Friday and although I'm sure they will check the positions before hand if I go into labor between now and then, A still hasn't flipped so C-section regardless.
This was pretty much my situation too. Mono/Di twins. Both flipped a lot, so we just planned on c-section. I was fine either way, just wanted what was safe for everyone.

Mono/di twins, both head down, planned c-section that ended up being an emergency c-section at 35w6d.
I planned on the c-section even though my doctor was supportive of a vaginal birth because I didn't want to worry about the double whammy and there had just been too many issues with the pregnancy as it was, I didn't want to risk anything going wrong.
TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!
Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!
Me almost to the letter but mine were slightly earlier. The joys of a multiple pregnancy.

My MFM made the call of vaginal vs. Csection I only saw an MFM. He never indicated that mo/di vaginal delivery was any riskier than di/di.
I'm a big candidate for this! Baby A is in great head down position but baby B is very high up and very transverse. She's been that way for months. So, scheduled c sec, here I come! I really don't want to try out vag and c sec in the same day..
Unexplained Infertility
After two Clomid cycles, three injectable IUI cycles, two IVFs, two miscarriages, and one lap surgery, IVF #2 has brought us our little boy!

After months of being postponed or cancelled, FET #1.3 (Natural FET) brought us twin girls!
C-section. Baby A was breech from pretty early one so we knew I'd have a c-section.
I had one scheduled for 38 weeks, but my water broke at 36 weeks and I started having strong contractions. I was already 5cm dilated by the time I got to the hospital. So it wasn't an emergency c-section, but it was kind of a rushed one.
People successfully deliver twins vaginally all the time (even my OB did!) So if you want to go that route, I'd push for it. In my experience the Csection was a lot harder than the vaginal delivery.
Right ovary removed 09.04.2012 via vertical laparotomy
Essure implant placed on remaining tube 06.13.2013; successful followup scan 09.30.2013
This was the same with me, except that the day before induction B was transverse, but my OB was ok with vaginally as long as A was head down. Getting B out was harder than A, but we were still successful.

Both babies were head down, but I ended up with a double whammy...vaginal and c-section.
Honestly speaking, now that I've been through the whole ordeal, I would STILL try for a vaginal birth even if there were risk of vaginal/c-section. The first 2 days were hard, I felt pretty good (just slow moving) at a week after they were born and back to my normal self by 2 weeks.
If you just opt for a c-section because you're afraid you'll end up with both, you're signing yourself up for major surgery. If you go for vaginal, you might get them both out (especially if your doctor is comfortable with a breech extraction) and then your recovery will be SO much easier than a c-section.
If you get both...yeah it sucks, but you recovery quickly and it's all a distant memory.

Ok, this thread freaks me out... Granted, I was rather freaked before this too
I'm 33w2d with mo/di girls. Mine have both been head down since week 16 and I get mixed messages for all the doctors.
Has anyone heard of having A vaginally and then the cervix starts to close, requiring a c/s?
My OB required both twins to be head down for a vaginal birth, that said I did everything I could to encourage that (spinningbabies.com). However, as it turned out during my induction bc of my preeclampsia at 36w0d BA wasn't tolerating labor well and we went with a C section. I really wanted a vaginal birth, but I encourage you to keep an open mind and realize that with these twins births, they dictate what happens.

C-section at 36w3d.
Planned to try vaginally, took the class, read the books. Baby B was breech and larger. If Baby B had been smaller or the same size as A, we would have pushed for a vaginal delivery with breech extraction. Doctor was concerned that the size difference would make for a difficult or impossible breech extraction. He said "I will support you if you want to try for a vaginal delivery, but I'm not comfortable with it." Given his level of experience, we took his advice and did a C-section. No regrets - easy recovery w/ no complications, and really did not mourn the loss of the experience of vaginal birth at all, despite all of our intention and preparation.
