I hate apartment living. At 11:10 pm you would think my neighbors would have the courtesy not to slam their doors, blare their music etc.. I just think all people living in apartment complexes should have a few simple common courtesies. Anybody else have neighbors like this? The ones across the hall even have a child about DD's age and they still are like this, I don't get it.
I woke up to my upstairs neighbor playing his guitar at like 3:30am one night a couple weeks ago. I was so confused, and not happy. There's also sometimes drunk people talking in our driveway right outside our bedroom windows at all hours of the night. It's annoying, but I'm always too tired to get involved.
I know slamming doors wouldn't count but when does something cross the line into disturbing the peace? Don't apartments have rules on that?
Usually there is a certain time that noise ordinances start (Mine at our old complex was 10pm). I would try politely talking to my neighbors before I went as far as calling in a DTP.
Although, when I tried to nicely talk to my neighbor about parking his CRAZY loud diesel right next to DD1's window at 9 at night and leave it running for an hour or longer, it was the dead of winter, and his response was "Sorry, I leave my baby in there."
Umm...I am sure the look on my face was one of horror. Stop doing drugs, get your baby out of the truck and be quiet. Sheesh.
But music, parties, fighting...etc. Those are all definite reasons to contact at least your landlord about the issue.
We have thin walls, and somebody decided 3 AM was a good time to vacuum last night. My son was thisclose to waking up; he kept stirring and fidgeting. I was a bit unhappy.
We have gotten really lucky with our current apartments. Nice neighbors, very little noise. The biggest problem we have is this owl that lives outside our bedroom window. Our neighbors are probably cursing us, though - the ones with that noisy toddler.
This post makes me sad. We are selling our house and moving into an apartment in a few weeks. In our previous apartment, we had pretty decent neighbors. I dread the noise. Of course, dd may be the loudest thing there.
Our apartment quiet hours are 10PM to 8AM. I try to keep noise to a minimum, but with two active toddlers our downstairs neighbors probably hate us. The girls run and run and run around all the live long day.
Occasionally we have to run the laundry earlier or later than the hours state because ain't no way I'm letting a puked on set of clothes and sheet sit around until quiet hours are over. Ain't no way.
Unable to even.

Re: Apartment living sucks
I don't exactly know what the rules are on noise, need to break out the lease I guess. I just am annoyed at how extra loud people are tonight.

Ours does. No laundry, vacuum, or noisy appliances past a certain hour. 10 I think.

Yikes to leaving his baby in the truck, psycho.
LOL. Winnie the Pooh stories with the Heffalump are so silly.
