Baby on a cruise?

Would you take baby on a cruise? DH and I really want to take a vacation this fall with DS. Initially we were thinking about spending a few weeks in British Columbia, but I think that's going to be too pricey (we're in the states). I get emails from Carnival Cruise Lines all the time advertising deals, so I thought maybe a cruise would be a fun relaxing option. I'm just not sure if it would be safe/appropriate to take a 5 month old on a cruise. What do you think?

Do it!! As long as the restuarants are baby friendly. I highly encourage travel before your LO turns 6 months and starts getting mobile. At 5 months they should be on a good routine with pretty dependable nap/feeding times established.

I've never been on a cruise, but took several trips with dd1 in the first few months. Was very easy.

Cruising is the ideal way to travel, no stress of how to get places or getting lost! 5 months is perfect so they aren't on the run and can be in a front pack. I would do it if we could afford it!

We travel a lot with LO but a cruise? Ehh, I don't think I'd be that brave. Would be too worried about LO getting sick out at sea.

This is my concern. We were huge travelers before LO and want to continue traveling. We're typically the independent travel type, so I was only considering the cruise for cost savings purposes, not convenience. But LO potentially getting sick out at sea does concern me...

I would be worried about this too, plus all the problems Carnival has been having lately. I do not trust them. I would go with another cruise line and ask if they have a doctor and supplies on board to care for a sick infant.

I personally wouldn't, only because I love cruising and would rather enjoy myself, and wait for LO to be a few years older/somewhat self-sufficient. Maybe I'm just selfish like that. I really wanted to comment bc my friend was told not to cruise with her baby until he was at least 6 mos old. Her pedi recommended it and I think she called Carnival to ask as well, at least she said she was going to.

I thought babies weren't allowed until they were at least 6 months. I've only been on a couple cruises, but I think it would be easy enough to bring baby.

I guess I would if I had opportunity, but if you are just going with your h then I would think about things like being stuck in that tiny room during nap/bedtime maybe splurge for a bigger balcony room? and what you will do on nonport days. nbsp;On the cruises I've been on we spend those days lounging at the pool, wandering the casino, seeing a show, etc. I can't really think of many babyfriendly things to do on board.

I'd do a Disney cruise because of their excessive cleanliness, nursery and baby friendly pools and areas. Would not do carnival.

My H and I don' think its safe. My friend is getting married in November and they are doing a cruise (the actually ceremony will be when the ship is docked in Nassau). LO will be 6 months and we decided we didn't feel comfortable taking her on a cruise so we are flying to Nassau for a few days and will attend the ceremony. Not only have cruises gotten a lot of bad press lately but I'm really concerned about all of the illness that can be passed around on cruise ships.

Most cruise lines won't allow babies under 6 months, so check before you book!

Carnival and Royal Caribbean required babies to be 6 months. Disney will allow babies at 3 months b/c I looked at their Nemo Nursery on board and that's the policy. DH and I keep debating Disney b/c he refuses to do a cruise without taking excursions and I refuse to take the baby into a strange land so their nursery option is appealing at $6 an hour (and the fact that it's "Disney" makes me trust them more with my child). Disney also has indoor water splash areas for small babies and I always fear being that annoying couple with the baby in which case you wouldn't have to worry about since the whole ship is swarming with babies and kids.
