1 month old eating 3 oz every 2 hours?

EFF baby, born 5lbs14oz, now over 7lbs, 1 month old.

My son is 1 month old as of yesterday and was upped about 3 days ago from 2oz every 2-3 hours to 3 oz every 2-3 hours because he would SCREAM all day long after every feeding.

Is he eating too much at 3oz every 2-3 hours during the day and 3oz every 3-4 hours at night?

  • Nope. He should still feed on demand.

  • My LO is 3 weeks and she can eat 3 oz in a sitting.  It's hard to tell how much she is getting while on the breast, but when she gets a bottle she can down 3 oz with no problems.

My 2 week old is eating 3, sometimes 3 n a half ounces every 34 hours, sometimes with a half ounce or ounce after 2 n half hours if he screams. All ok per the pedi. He is EFF btw.
  • My LO is 3 weeks old and is eating between 3 and 4 ounces every 2 to 3 hours.
  • Has he stopped screaming since you increased the servings? Our pedi said to mostly let LO dictate when to step up her feedings for the first few weeks. We try to make an extra ounce in each bottle so we aren't accidentally leaving her hungry. She's almost 2 weeks and eating 2 to 3 oz every 3 to 4 hours.

ETA: She was 7 lbs at her last checkup. We'll see on Monday if she's above her birth weight.

  • He's a LOT better! He still cries when he wakes up, when he is overtired, when he gets his diaper changed or when we have to take his onesie/sleeper off, but other than that he's been MUCH better. I expect ALL babies to cry a portion of the day as it's their only way of communication, but before we upped his formula he was crying 5,6,7,8 hours a day and driving us completely NUTS. Now he cries maybe 2-4 hours a day if I added up every little cry in a 24 hour period lol
  • Our LO is 6 weeks old and I just had to up him to 4 oz.  He eats every 2-3 hours during the day.  Now, about 8 pm he starts eating 4 oz every hour till 10 then he is out for 3-4 hours. He gets up, normally, at about 1 or 2, 4 or 5,and 7 or 8 am and eats about 3 oz .

Hey, that sounds like a victory to me! Hang in there, mama!

  • My baby just ate 3oz at this feeding and he is only 8 days old. He will typically eat anywhere between 2 and 4 ounces every 3 to 4 hours. Because of his issues at birth we have been told all along by his Drs, nurses, and neonatal Dr to load him up with whatever he will take. We also supplement at every feeding.
