  I have insulin resistance and that is why I take it. That is a first for me, to hear of it improving egg quality. My doc never mentioned it. I would think that if you don't have any underlying issues that require it to be taken, you shouldn't take it. That's just me though, and I'm no doctor. If you're not comfortable taking them, I would discuss it and give my reasons why. Prescriptions aren't to be handed out like pez on the off-chance it could help. Good luck

  I take Metformin for egg quality and I do not have PCOS or any known insulin issues. If you google search you can find many women who have said it's helped them with their quality issues. I have only been on it for about a month and I start IVF #3 in June so I don't know yet if it has helped or not.

  DX: Infertile 6/11 Me: LPD, all other blood work clear.
  DH: low sperm motility,low count.
  Met with RE start clomid + TI + IUI 5/12= IUI cancelled due to positive Cystic Fibrosis carrier test. DH tested Neg. for Cystic Fibrosis,
  
  6/12 Clomid + TI +IUI=BFN 8/10 IVF consult.
  IVF #1 Started BCP 9/2 Lupron 10/11 stims 10/27 ER 11/6!! 5 eggs retreived only 1 mature. FERT report shows none made it.Cancelled cycle.
  
  IVF #2 BCP 11/18 Lupron 12/14
  
  Stims start 12/29 ER 1/8 ET 1/11 put in 1 grade B and 1 grade C. Beta: 1/20 = BFN
  
  IVF# 3 7/13 BFP ended in chemical pregnancy
  
  9/15 diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance gearing up for IVF# 4 Dec/ Jan

  I have IR PCOS so I take metformin for that, but my RE also says that it should help with my egg quality.  Good luck to you.

  DH's SA : Excellent

  Lap and Hysteroscopy June 2012

  DX: PCOS, Stage III Endo, slight Adenomyosis, blocked tube, and probable LPD

  Treatments:  6 Months Lupron Depot injections; 1500 mg metformin; 3 cycles of Clomid + TI = BFN

  3 endometrial biopsies all were "out of phase" 

  September - December, 2013:  Break to lose weight and get healthy

  40 lb weight loss but still not ovulating "in phase"  

  February - March 2014: bcps + follistim + trigger + TI = BFP

   Beta #1 (12dpo): 30; Beta #2 (18dpo): 500; Beta #3 (25dpo): 7,000!!! 

  1st u/s 4/16: One beautiful hb at 144 bmp 

  2nd u/s 4/29: hb at 166 bmp.  Graduated from RE!!

  I've been on metformin for probably about a year now. My GYN put me on it because my cycles were extremely irregular and we were TTC. First, he did an ultrasound which showed polycystic ovaries but my labwork showed I wasn't insulin resistant. For the first time in my life, I began having regular cycles. We did not know DH had severe MFI at this point. I haven't had any side effects on metformin and my RE told me to continue it as well as we begin out first IVF cycle.

  Happily Married since 2007! TTC #1 since 2/12! Me(29)-PCOS(Metformin) DH(30)-MFI, 10/12 SA=Azoo(Clomid started), 12/12 SA=0.1mil, 2/13 SA=2.1mil/Abnormal Morph. IVF #1 scheduled May/June 2013

  My OBGYN prescribed Metformin to me in the early phases of us TTC. Apparently a lot of women who were taking Metformin for insulin were getting pregnant. It can help if you have irregular cycles and are not ovulating consistently.

  I'm on metformin and do not have ir or Pcos. The ri put me on it to help balance my hormones etc. I can tell you in july if it helps egg quality.

  Me:29 DH:29  TTC since 1/11 Dx: unexplained IF/early DOR/immune issues 
  

  Feb'12- July'12-testing(all clear minus slight arcuate ute), 3 IUI with clomid all BFN
  8/30IVF#1 Antagonist protocol- ER 9/11-8R, 7M, 5F. 

  ET 9/14 2 embies transferred. 1 10cell Grade 4, 1 8cell Grade 4. No frosties. BFN
  IVF#2 Antagonist protocol plus baby aspirin- ER 12/5-16R, 12M, 8F!
  ET 12/10 5dt! 1 fully expanded blast & 1 early blast. No frosties. BFN
  3/13 hysteroscopy & polypectomy, Consulted w Dr. Kwak-Kim.  

  DX: High NK cells, cytokines, DHEAs& PAI1;  hypothyroid, +APA, restricted bloodflow
