March 2013 Moms

Ugh, Total Mommy Meltdown!

So my DH works out of town for 15days at a time,we are on day 15, i am exhausted, pms has hit and today i had a total mommy meltdown and now i feel like pure dirt! First off, we do not live near any family so i have no help, monday was LO's 1st set of shots so my mother came sunday night to go with us monday morning, which is great however she keeps saying LO needs cereal because he is starting to eat every 2hours again somedays. well grandma gave him cereal and now he has not had a dirty diaper since Monday afternoon and he screams when he is straining like he needs to dirty his diaper but he cant. he started this last night, so today after finding nothing to calm him down i took him for a car ride which did not work so we came home and our dog had pooped in the house by the back door and i was lucky enough to step in it, now our dog is 16 years old and knows better but at the same time she is 16 and i'm sure she cant hold things like she used to. I lost it and yelled at the dog, which in turn scared my poor little guy and he started screaming even louder than i thought possible so i now feel terrible i finally got him calmed down and asleep for a nap but i just cant keep from crying and worrying that i hurt his little feelings and scared him. i am just at the end of my rope, 15 days of barely getting anything to eat or enough sleep, not leaving the house, trying to keep up with the basic things like clean bottles and clothes and keeping up with the dogs. ugh, i knew this was not going to be a walk in the park but i feel so unqualified and inadequate. thanks for reading, i just need to vent!

  • My only advice is to take a deep breath, and realize that after 15 long days your SO will be back to help.  I've had days before pregnancy where if it was a really stressfull, long day, just stubbing my toe when I got home would send me into massive crocodile tears.  Chin up, it'll get better.

  • I'm sorry-that seems super rough!!

How often is your DH out of town for 15 days? If it's at regular intervals, could your mom come down for a couple of those days (like, your alone days 1-6, she stas 7-9, then your alone again 10-15?) so you can a)get out of the house alone and b)catch up on things that have to be done. Just make sure no cereal! At 8 weeks if he eats every 2 hours that's fine, could still be a growth spurt or entering his second "wonder week"

If not, it might be worth it to get someone to come by a couple of those days to watch the baby for a couple hours. Just so you can breathe. It seems like that would be the toughest thing; not being able to just being able to walk away for a hour or so.

Be strong mama. you're not inadequate; I think there is sooo much pressure on moms to be able to take care of the baby 100%, on top of house work and (in your case) household animals as well, that people forget that moms need breaks as well! Yes, your DH is at work, but to be fair, his job is still going to end at a certain time; yours isn't. It's very hard to be the sole provider for a child, with no way  to even have 30 minutes to yourself, so you're doing GREAT.  If your LO will let you hold him, just cuddle with him and give yourself permission to sit on the couch and not worry about things that need to be  done and relax!

Honestly, I do have help and I still have meltdowns and feel inadequate sometimes. You're doing the best you can. Don't be so hard on yourself. I hope you get a nice break when your H gets home!

Me too! I think we all get to the breaking point. It is just a matter that we all want to do what is best for everyone (baby, husband, fur-babies) that we forget we need to take care of us as well. Hang in there! I'm sure you are doing great!

    All are Welcome!

  • I understand feeling inadequate. You just want to make sure your LO feels loved. I do realize how important it is to be calm because babies can sense your nerves. I hope you get some relief soon. The fact that you care so much makes you a good mommy!
