As a FTM, how can you tell what is movement and what is just gas/ indigestion? I'm 17 weeks and so far haven't had anything that I would classify as "movement" but then I'm not really sure what to look for.

Some describe it as "bubbling" or "popcorn popping". It's persistent and repetitive beating as best I can describe it to you.
The best advice is to not look for anything. Wait until you have that first distinct jab or roll. Until then don't worry!
I have an anterior placenta. Finally felt her move at 22 wks. Now at 23 wks it's much stronger, I can see my stomach move.. And bf felt her move last night. So exciting....:)

This, I kept not looking for movement even when I felt bubbles. Then one night I was getting up to go to the bathroom and rolled onto my back and felt a roll, it happened twice in a row. I couldn't deny it after that.

FTM here.nbsp; Never felt the flutters. At 20 weeks, I started to feel kicks they felt like little muscle spasms.
This is the best way to describe what movement feels like. I have muscle spasms in my legs and its almost the exact same sensation when the baby moves.
Re: movement..
DS - 17 weeks
DD - 15 weeks
My pregnancy with DD I didn't feel movement until 23 weeks or so.
I'm not sure what that would mean for you though. My experience has no bearing on yours...
