Babies: 0 - 3 Months

STTN

when did your LO start STTN or at least more than 2 or 3 hours?

Re: STTN

  • Lurking from 3-6 months...

DD started sleeping longer stretches of 4-5 hours around 8 weeks of age.  She STTN all of the 9th week (it was my first week back to work, and she screamed all day at daycare).  Well once she got used to daycare, she went back to normal... which is waking 1-2x per night to eat.

She still wakes to eat at night at 5.5 months old.  I'll occasionally get a night or two of STTN, but it's not a normal thing for us yet.  And when she's going through growth spurts, she still wakes every 1.5-2 hours to eat.

Every baby is different... some STTN almost immediately, some (like mine) like to wake up.

  • STTN? 6 months. Longer stretches at night? Around 3 months.

  • Around 9 to 10 weeks he started sleeping 4 to 5 hours and has done 6 to 8 a couple times. My older son started consistently STTN at around 3 months I think.

  • DS didn't do longer stretches until we did CIO at around 6 months and didn't fully sttn until 11 months.  DD has been awesome sleeper, on the other hand.  Last night she slept from 9-4am, woke to nurse for 10 minutes and went back down til 7am when DS woke us up.  She sleeps in a RnP

My DD started doing longer stretches around 9 to 10 weeks. She goes down between 8 and 10 pm, wakes up around 3 to 4 am, and the sleeps again for another 3 to 4 hours.

This has been fairly consistent, but we still have some nights where she refuses to go down and fusses for hours. These have only been a few.

DS2 has been sleeping 8 hours straight since 4 weeks. 10 to 11 hours since 6 weeks.

DS1 stills gets up every single night.

I was about to post the same question last night! My DD is 7.5 weeks old and still won't sleep longer than a 3 hour stretch at night. She did a few times before her 6 week growth spurt but it's been a crapshoot since then.

  • My daughter is 9.5 weeks and she sleeps 34 hrs at most during the night. We are still waiting for the STTN. I am BFing so I am not sure if she might not get full enough to STTN. Anyone thinks so?
  • DS is EBF as well, and has been sleeping through the night since about 6.5 weeks. He had a few off nights after his 2 month shots (last Wed), but I think he's back to STTN.

He also has gained weight crazy quick it seems, and was 14lbs 4oz at his 2 month appt last week. I don't know if that has anything with STTN so early.

I think every baby is different. We certainly didn't do anything trying to get him to sleep longer stretches.

  • Well, DD3 is almost 8 weeks and just slept 5 hours last night, from 9pm-2am. Of course, she was up every hour after that until morning. I think I prefer 3 hour stretches.

  • Since 6 weeks, DD has been sleeping a 6 hour stretch each night (generally 9pm - 3am), so we have one MOTN feed, and then she wakes again for the day between 5 and 6am.

We've even had a couple of 8 and 9 hour stretches.  We count ourselves very lucky!

  • Don't try to compare your LO to those around you (or on this board). You're going to find a wide range of answers, and a wide range of babies with different temperaments. Some babies STTN super early, some babies are going on a year with still 1-2 wake ups! All for different reasons. Some babies only get up for food, some babies still need comforting at night-its the personality of your baby that you really can't do anything about until MAYBE 4 months when you might be able to start sleep training. My LO has always slept more than 2 or 3 hours at night; at 10 weeks she sleeps 7/730 until 5/6.  It's just what she does, she's bigger than most (13 lbs) and puts herself to sleep when she wakes up at night-for now! that may change at any moment !

But for more than 2 or 3 hours-I think until they're 4-6 weeks your looking on average 2 or 3 hours for most babies, then after that you can probably get 4-5 hour stretches for that first sleep.

  • He started sleeping 7 hour stretches around 5 weeks. Now at 8 weeks, he sleeps 9 to 10 hours. It's amazing!

    DD1 - 6 months

    DD2 - 8 weeks

Totally depends on the baby and there's not much you can do to move it along :)

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
