Daydreaming about birth

I know, weird, right? I was induced via pitocin and didn't get an epidural. It was the hardest, most painful thing I've ever experienced, but for some reason, I daydream about it.

I guess it's because of how empowering it was. Or maybe because it was the day I met my baby. Or because I saw my husband in a whole new light- as a father.

Anyone else know what I mean?

Totally! Last night as I was falling asleep I started trying to remember every detail from first contraction to getting stitched up! I had a natural childbirth with midwives...the whole thing (although totally painful and shocking) was beautiful and totally empowering! No matter the details, it was the way we met our babies! I can't wait to experience it again.

YES! I was also induced with pitocin and made it thru without an epidural. I was so proud of myself and my midwife was impressed! The nurses in the room waiting for the baby to come out all thought I had an epidural. It was so empowering to see how my husband looked at me with love and admiration, to know that I really did have the strength to push the baby out and endure the pain even though I doubted if I could do it! And to hear and see and hild my baby for the first time! Such a powerful day! I love thinking about it and going thru the memories in my mind. I like to reminisce with my husband every once in a while. It was awesome to hear him talk about it and give me little details that I wasn't aware of because I was so in the zone!

  • I totally agree. 3 to 4 months must be the turning point. I've been daydreaming about E's birth as well and have been telling my friends what an amazing and empowering experience it was and how I would do it ten times over if I could. I did not feel this way a few weeks ago.

Yes! I love reminiscing with DH! He brags about me to people and it feels so good! I was telling him yesterday that I feel like I can do anything after experiencing childbirth! I'm also obsessed with hearing other people's birth stories!

Coffeecream - my midwives gave me the option of doing an alternate test where I didn't eat for 3 hours before (went in at noon, just before lunch) and just gave blood - no drinking the gross drink or waiting at all. My MW said since I wasn't considered at risk for GD I didn't have to do it. Maybe this is something you can do?

  • Ohh, I've always done this. Since the day he was born. I had an AMAZING natural, birth experience in a freestanding birth center with midwives. He was born in the water and it was really magical. I mean, it hurt like no other but it was also kind of awesome to feel the power. Also, right after DS was born the midwife created a sitz bath for us and I sat down in the tub holding DS while he floated in the warm water. It was so cool. I wish I could go back to that very moment over and over again. I would PIP it but I'm mobile.

Here's the PIP! Don't worry, that's NOT blood it's the herbs from the sitz bath. DS loved it. AMAZING!

This is my exact thoughts and feelings.

I enjoyed the birth of my little miss so much. I really pray I will be able to experience another.

I had the same birth experience as you! I think about it so frequently and remember it so vividly. DH always teases me about this one deep growl I let out, re-enacting it for me. It was the most painful thing I have ever experienced and I wouldn't have done it any other way.

  • I daydream about my sons birth as well. With my DD, I had an epidural and pitocin (water broke and labor didn't start and I was only 1cm dilated) and it took 18 hours to have her. I was so drained that I hardly remember the experience anymore. I took a natural rout with my DS, labored at home for close to 24 hours before going into the hospital and was talking and laughing between contractions (thanks to hypno-birthing and Lamaze) and pushed him out in less than 15 mins. It was so empowering and amazing (painful at the end but I don't even remember the pain anymore). With my DD, I was stuck in the hospital for 3 days and my back and legs HURT for weeks to the point I could hardly carry my daughter or walk. With my son, I got up just an hour after he was born and walked myself down the hall to my PP room and was home in 24 hours with very little pain at all. So yes, I daydream with a smile and wish it hadn't happened so fast or I had someone at least taking pictures. It may sound a bit conceded but I am extremely proud of myself :)

  • I am desperately trying to remember DD's birth. I did have an epi because my water broke and labor stalled and they gave me pitocin. I remember laboring, but I don't really remember the birth particularly the moment she was born. I keep asking DH stuff like 'did she cry' 'what did I do when the dr put her on my chest'? It makes me sad that I barely remember it and I honestly don't know why I don't remember. Maybe it was so surreal?
  • I relive my birth experiences quite often.  As crazy as it sounds, I love giving birth.  The whole thing is so empowering and exciting to me.  The thought of never doing it again makes me sad.  When we're done having kids I could see myself becoming a doula just so I can experience birth again, even if from a completely different perspective.

We should all be super proud of ourselves : No matter what kind of birth we had. All mamas are rockstars for going thru this amazing process of having a baby!! And then jumping right in and taking care of this new little person immediately after such a lifechanging physical event!
  • I wish I could "like" all of these posts like on fb!  I am surprised how many mamas went natural, it is more than I thought.  I did as well and had a BCB this time ( 1st was hospital ) and I think about the whole experience all the time.  It makes me sad about never birthing again with midwives so I hope we are blessed with another pg in a few years.  It was so awesomely painful and wonderful at the same time.  My only regret is not getting more pictures and/ or video during those first hours after LO was born.  I can only hope my next birth is as good as the last.
