TTC After a Loss

NTTCALR: Are you in school?

I'm not making a clicky poll - sorry. : )

Is anyone else here in school - whether it be undergrad, grad, PHD, anything higher, etc?

Just wondering who all else is out there being totally stressed out with school on top of everything else that TTCAL brings.

I think I saw the graduation post (and was jealous, in a good way of course).

I find it to be much harder to focus on school while TTC.

I can relate to the regretting taking a break part. I thought after my bachelor's that I was done forever with school....nope, not so much. It is much harder to go back after a break and it gets really intimidating at times. At least you are really close to your pharmacy tech qualifications! Baby steps, right?? : )

Yes, exactly! I was nervous to start back!! But baby steps is so right.. Pharm Tech is just a stepping stone for now. I hope to get a better job until I can get Radiology under my belt. It's beyond difficult finding a good job without any degree. So, back I went!

The bolded for sure. I am actually finding that it's harder to even get a job with just ONE degree. I know that may vary across certain fields, but I am in accounting and I have found it has gotten highly competitive. Almost everyone has a bachelor's - you pretty much need a master's or a CPA now to even get a decent job.

I'm no accountant (but my dad is a CPA)... I would say in that field, a CPA is much more important than having a master's, unless you wanted to teach. His firm actually has problems finding enough qualified people to hire, but I think they prefer those with a CPA already or at least someone working towards one. I know those tests are no joke though, I remember my dad going through it when I was younger. GL!!

In some states, you pretty much need the masters to get your CPA! In MA, they changed the requirements so that you need experience AND education, not just experience OR education to get your credential, and with the number of hours you need, you're really close to the MSA or MBA already, so the majority of people just do the whole degree. Though I know that varies state to state. (MH is a CPA in MA and has his MSA.)

To answer the original question, I'm not currently but I'm thinking about going back for my PhD. It's definitely not needed in my field and I'm not sure I want to give up clinical work, but I love research and think I could do a lot of good there. So I'm torn!

Yes, it is difficult to find a job with only one degree. Totally agree.

I'm in school, I went back last nov and have enjoyed having something to work towards again.  I got injured on the job five years ago and it has been a long road to recovery both emotionally and physically so after my injury I didn't do anything, thankfully MH was extremely supportive.  the move is going to force me to take a break but hopefully I'll be done in about two years.

Me! I have 6 classes left for Pharmacy tech, then like 15 left for my BAS :/ I 100 percent regret taking that break!!

GL!!

I am in school for my master's and also taking the CPA exam kind of in conjunction. It has been REALLY hard. I have passed two parts, waiting on my score for the third, and the fourth one is scheduled for July. I need a break.

This is true - in GA they upped the education requirements to 150 hours and I only had 131 from undergrad so I decided to get a master's.

    All AL Welcome

  • I just finished nursing school in December, but they don't do fall graduation so mine is supposed to be tomorrow. Sadly, in the nursing world you aren't guaranteed to have time off for things like that. The hospital I'm at requires working every other weekend and since little sister gets married next Saturday I ended up giving up my graduation to be in her wedding. I also had to sacrifice so DH and I could be there for another wedding the next weekend that we are also in. Pretty sure I'm just going to treat myself to breakfast at Panera Bread or something like that when I get off work tomorrow morning before I come home and go back to sleep to go back to work all over again.

On a not so pity party note, I'm looking at going back to school once I get two years of experience under my belt to get my doctorate as a nurse practitioner. Not sure if I would do family medicine or stay in the neonatal/pediatrics world.
