Infertility

Would this concern you?

I had my egg retrieval on Wednesday. I'm crampy and a bit sore, but no severe pain. I'm weighing myself every morning though, and I am up 5 lbs since yesterday morning.

I do fluctuate, but not THAT much. Also, I haven't had a bowel movement since before the retrieval.

What do you think? Should I call? Better safe than sorry, or is weight gain normal, especially if I'm not in pain?

Thanks!

  • I hope your ER went well! How many eggs did you get?

As for the weight gain, it might be just because you haven't had a bm, or possibly OHSS. Was your e2 high? Have you tried using Colace or prune juice to get things moving? Triggers and pain meds always constipate me, so I swear by Colace!!

I'd call for peace of mind, but I'm not sure that you should worry about OHSS yet(unless your e2 was especially high). Just to be safe you might want to pick up some Gatorade.  GL!

  • I would be worried.  MY RE told me any wait gain more than 2 pounds is a concern.
  • Drink Gatorade, eat saltines, and tomato soup helps a ton!

5 lbs in one day is a lot. If you're uncomfortable or in pain, definitely go in.

It is normal to get constipated after ER since anesthesia "freezes" (relaxes) your internal systems and it takes time to get them moving again. I second the prune juice.

  • I ended up calling and they had me come in for an exam. I had mild OHSS, so I'm hanging out on the couch, with loads of Gatorade, this weekend and praying for a 5dt.

    Thanks for the advice!!
