Infertility

vacations

Anyone else planned or planning any kind of trips this summer or during your 2ww? With all the money we are spending with IVF since were OOP and no guarantee of it working I feel like we should save any extra money but in the same sense we are both so stressed and need a getaway. I was considering planning a trip to Riviera Maya, Mexico because there are some great deals!

So I guess Im trying to make myself feel better and see if any of you ladies are going anywhere??

Re: vacations

  • i would really love to go somewhere, anywhere really.  i unfortunately feel like i'm letting life pass me by as i "wait" for a baby.  i won't plan vacations because "what if i'm pregnant, what if i have morning sickness and can't travel", etc... it's ridiculous really.  we are planning a long weekend up in maine for my husband to do a bike ride in october and i'm already freaking out about it.
    Me (37) DH (39); PCOS changed to Unexplained, changed to DOR in 2012 (finally a correct diagnosis!);
    Started TTC 2009 with RE after 6 months.
    Clomid + Trigger x2;
    IUI + Femara x1,
    IUI + Follistim x2;
    IVF #1 (MDL) February 2013- BFN.
    IVF #2 (antagonist) May 2013, First BFP of my life.
    Identical twin miracle BOYS (!!) headed our way- due date is technically 2/4/14 but c section is scheduled for 1/7!

  • DH and I had to cancel a trip in March for family reasons, so we still have our airfare credit to use by 1/2014. I'm in my 2ww from our DEmbryo transfer last Thursday, so the trip we will plan sort of depends on the outcome of this, our final attempt for success.

    Also, I turn 40 in December, so if we do go away, it will be sometime around the end of November. Either San Diego, New Orleans, or some quiet beach in Florida.

    Good luck, and I say have some fun with planning your destressing vacation to Riviera Maya we loved our trip there!!
    SAIF/PAIF absolutely ALWAYS welcome to respond!

  • I don't think so this year. My sister is getting married and the week before is usually when we go to Maine and I really can't leave her a week before the wedding. We are going camping and that really relaxes us, plus it's not expensive at all. So some small trips here and there.

  • We are going away for a few long weekends. We took our big vacation right before IVF #1 and that was really just by chance.  With our final IUI in January and our trip to St Kitts in March, we just waited until we got back from vacation. It was so nice to have that stress free time though.  While I consider treatment schedules before planning things, I don't feel like I can plan my life around IF. It's too much pressure and I still want to enjoy my life

    We went to Riveria Maya for our honeymoon and stayed at an amazing all inclusive. It was a fantastic trip!

    We decided we'll do a long weekend somewhere maybe up at the place we got marriedit's a historical inn and plan a longer trip depending on the outcome of this ivf cycle.

    We've been planning our life around IF as well and decided no more trips (unless it was a weekend getaway).  We did so many trips last year knowing this year we'd focus on getting pregnant.  I did buy us tix for ACL in October and depending on how things go we may go or may sell our tix for a profit.
  • I'm scared to spend $$ in case we need it for possible further treatments this summer. Also, I'm a grad student, so summer is prime time for getting these treatments done. Based on those considerations, our only trips this summer will be one family wedding and a couple of family weekends at the lake.

    But if I were you and had the time and money to go on a beach vacation, then I definitely would! Throughout IF, I've felt like it always helps to have something fun to look forward to, so I say go for it! :)

  • We would like to do a trip in October or Nov. somewhere tropical, maybe Hawaii. Hoping it will be a babymoon! That's also when DH's new job is supposed to settle down and it's his birthday at that time. So it would be a perfect celebratory trip! However, I'm not booking anything until I'm PG and far enough to know things are going well. Also depends on how many FETs we have to do and what our funds are looking like after all the bills. And I REALLY need to buy a new car, so that is also a factor. Ugh, I need to win the lottery, lol! But yep, IF has totally put us on hold. We haven't done a big trip since April 2012 and it's rare for us to go this long without a trip or at least have something planned. We love to travel!!

  • We are having to be so tight w/ money due to IF that no big trips for us - and gosh, could we use one!  We're planning to camp quite a few times, which is definitely relaxing.  My parents mentioned they would like to fly us home to come to a family reunion, which was really nice of them.  Looking to see if we can make it happen.  It's a few months away so I have no idea what my IF course will be, so I am just going to book it & plan around it.  Sux!

    My TTC Journey:
    Dx: Hypothalamic amenorrhea / mild PCOS (Pretty much a hormone/ovulatory disorder)
    Progesterone to induce period w/ the goal of Clomid - never got period (September 2011). Referred to RE.
    Femera - never responded to the meds (December 2011)
    Clomid with TI - BFN (February 2012)
    Injectables (Menopur) - hyperstimulated/canceled (March 2012)
    Injectables #2 (Menopur) with TI- BFN (May 2012)
    IVF - OHSS (transfer canceled), but 11 frozen! (June 1012)

    FET # 3 - 1 transferred on 1/24/13. Beta#1 (11dp5dt): BFN.
    FET # 4 - 2 transferred on 3/21/13.  Bet #1 (11dp5dt): 660; Beta#2: 1,300.  Miscarried at home @ 6 weeks.

    FET # 5 - 2 transferred on 7/12/13.  Beta #1 (10dp6dt): BFN.
    Attempted an IUI in late August 2013, but didn't respond well.
    IVF #2 with PGS - Stims started 10/28 with retrieval on 11/11.  Of 14 mature eggs, 10 fertilized, 4 made it to Day 5 & 1 made it to Day 6. We did PGS on the Day 5 embryos, and 3 of 4 were normal. Had ET on 11/17. Beta #1 (8dp6dt): 203. Beta #2 (10dp6dt): 618. We since had two ultrasounds & on 12/19, our RE released us to the OB.  On 1/02/14, we had our first ultrasound with the OB where we heard the heartbeat.  We are so thankful for the blessing & crossing every finger & toe for a healthy & successful pregnancy.

  • I'm doing FET next month but already booked a trip to Cabo in September!  I'm kind of sick of putting vacation plans on hold just because "what if?".  Everything is booked fully refundable, but I'm really hoping to take this trip and also maybe I'll have a cute little belly, although I'll probably be in that stage where people wonder if I'm fat or pregnant!

     I say book away.  You need time away from all of this!

    DH and I were planning on going to Vegas in July with our best couple friend but we found out they were pregnant with their 2nd less than 1 week after booking the trip.  They weren't trying, obviously.  So, we are deciding if we still want to go just the two of us.  We will probably cancel and use the flight credits to do something else, especially if we arelooking to get a 2nd opinion out of state.

    We're taking family trips to Chicago and Warren Dunes as well as Destin.  If you want a good relaxing beach vacation Destin is a great place to go.  DH and I need a little get away just for us. We were going to do a FET in June, but I've just been feeling to down.  We may go to Napa. Great place, but not good for a 2 ww get away!

DH and I are both changing our careers (for some reason the idea of not having kids has made us want to have jobs where we help others) so we don't really have the time to go away. We will be spending some money on the backyard and I am really hoping this cycle works so I can be in charge of making iced teas instead of doing all that yard work.

    I do live at the Jersey Shore, so I'm going to try and visit the boardwalks and help with supporting the rebuild after Sandy. It may not be much, but nothing beats the salt air.

  • I'd love to plan something but we have four out of town weddings this summer....so those are the vacation I guess! We're going to stay an extra few days after one to visit family, plus our flights worked out to give us an extra day in town for another. I'm already plotting a vacation of some sort for next year though.
