Pacifiers

What's your view? Do you use them and if so what brand?
Idk if I want to use them. She was born on Thursday and hasn't had one yet but tries to put her hands in her mouth.

Re: Pacifiers

  • I like the Soothie ones.

  • No idea which brand yet but the hospital recommends them for 6 months. Whether we use one just depends on our baby.

  • I always said I would never use them... Then she was born. I've only needed it once or twice at night so far though. She is the perfect baby during the day. The reason I didn't want to use one is that I heard that a baby finding its hands to suck on was a huge developmental leap. She found her hands by the second day though so I figured it would be fine. A friend gave me mine and I can't remember the brand but it looks a lot like the one the hospital uses I believe.

Yep. That's the only kind he will take

    Same for us.

  • DD1 used them and it was great. Not only did it sooth her but a bonus was when she started to get mobile it deterred her from putting random stuff in her mouth. It also is said to decrease the chance of SIDS.
My DD2 won't take one... But she won't self soothe so right now I'm at a loss!

  • She won't take one but sometimes I really, really wish she would!

  • We used it here and there. DD was not dependent- she turned out to be a finger sucker.

The brand depends on what your LO prefers.

  • Soothies are what they recommend if you're breast feeding.   It's also the pacifier the hospital uses when doing a circumcision.

  • I was a thumbsucker with horrible consequences so I will do anything to avoid that. DD took one for 8 months and still BFed for 18 months. Plus I enjoy not being a human pacifier.

DS is a finger sucker and a tongue sucker. I had a free Nuk in one of the goodie bags from the OB, so I've used that maybe twice [when we had him swaddled with both arms down and therefore unavailable]. He wasn't sure what to do with it at first, but then he went to town!

  • Avent brand. I gave one to DS at 4 days last time - that was the only kind that would stay in - the soothies popped out.

Yep. I bought the Dr. Brown brand initially and she prefers the hospital soothie brand. And she hasn't had an issue with confusing the nipples either.

  • We haven't bought any yet. I'm waiting to see if he will even take one. If he likes and takes the hospital one, then I'll have to see and invest in some that are similar. If that doesn't work maybe try a different kind, but you never know.

  • We have a couple but we haven't even tried using them yet. So far he only cries when he's hungry and is satisfied afterwards. I'm open to trying them at some point though.

I have never used them but I breastfeed and have found that baby will comfort nurse a lot. It's like they use you as a human pacifier sometimes but it does 't last forever.

I am not opposed to them at all.
  • I used the Tommee Tippee brand with DD1 when she was a couple of months old. She only used them for a few months then luckily left them on her own.

  • We use Tommee tippee, and he really seems to like it.   I am not a fan of pacifiers, I have seen way too many 3 and 4 year olds running around with them in their mouth.  BUT there are times they are a necessary evil and really are a life saver.

So far our LO only takes one on rare occasions, such as when he is hungry and I am working on pumping or warming up some breast milk for him.

We use Mam pacifiers. I gave her one last night for the first time at 2 weeks old, only because we just got breastfeeding down and i didnt want to mess with it. My son took it from day 1 till he was a year old.

Ditto that here.  Still have an inside baby, but DS took the soothie until he was about 3 months old.  When he started getting teeth, he didn't want it anymore.  I was so glad that it served its purpose but didn't end up being a habit we had to break at 2,3 or 4 years old!
