How long till you drove after c section

Well ended up having my RCS early at 37 weeks. Baby girl was ready for the world! She's so perfect and itty bitty :.
5/7/13 5 lbs 11 oz 20 inches. Passed all her screenings with flying colors!
So I can't remember is there a length of time to wait till I should drive?
I'm still sore but better today. I ended up with a spinal headache and had to get a blood patch. So as of now my back hurts more then my incision.

  • I was told 2 weeks and when you aren't taking any prescription meds for pain.  I would definitely wait until your back is pain free too.

  • I was told to wait until I was strong enough to slam on brakes. That was about 3 weeks for me.

  • I think my doctor said 6 weeks but I drove at 4 weeks because I felt great and had not had pain meds for a few weeks.

  • I was told 2 weeks but I'm at 1.5 weeks and still in a lot of pain so I don't think I'll be driving just yet.
  • I was told 2 weeks and no pain killers besides Tylenol/Advil.

  • With DD my doctor said I could drive as soon as I felt good and was no longer taking anything stronger than motrin. I waitied about 10 days after I got out of the hospital and my first ride was with no one else in the car with me.

  • My doctor told me to wait 4-6 weeks, but being as I lived at home alone I got stuck without any diapers and was fine driving around 3 weeks after. Just be very careful to not do anything that hurt your incision.
  • My Dr says 6 weeks.  I drove after 2.  I was not in pain, and had been moving around quite a bit prior.  I would wait until your back felt better, and your mobility has increased.
  • Mine said whenever I am off pain meds and can slam on brakes.

I'm two weeks out today and will take DS to and from daycare for the first time. I won't do longer distances yet but I sort of don't have a choice. Plus I have been off of the pain pills for two days.

I wasn't told anything with DD and waited 12 days.  I was told two weeks with DS and waited that long.  Four to six weeks sounds excessive to me for someone with a normal recovery.

I was told two weeks originally, but I was driving after about a week. (I was off pain killers by then and my husband had to go back to work.)

  • I drove the week after delivery, but only to the hospital which is two blocks away because my baby was in the NICU and was my only way there to see her. I wasn't on pain meds anymore and felt great.

My doc told me 4-6 weeks.

I think I waited 1 week. I did not take any pain meds.

  • Also told 2 weeks for driving.  Went out at 13 days, though.  Kept it a quick trip to the bank so I didn't tire myself out, but I had to get out of the house.  Started to go stir crazy being cooped up!
