Constipation???

My LO is 10weeks old and has been in nutramagen since about 4 weeks bc she was very fussy, arched back during feeding etc. dr immediately switche her to nutramagen. We went in for her 1 month check up shortly after and he suspected he has reflux based on symptoms that hadn't cleared up. She did much better on nutramagen but after a few weeks began spitting up more. The Zantac seems to help bc I did teke her off it or a week and noticed a big difference. So when we went to her 2 month appointment different doctor she said she thought she may just have reflux and doesn't necessarily need nutramagen and suggested switching to soy and adding 1tbs of rice cereal to control her spitting up. So we started that on Tuesday and since Wednesday or Thursday she has been constipated with very hard small balls if poop. Before her poop was very soft. Is this due to the soy formula or the rice cereal? Has anyone else made a switch like this and experienced this?

The soy isn't helping I'm sure but it's more than likely the cereal. I add cereal to soy formula for my dd's reflux and it also makes her really constipated. We give her a little prune juice everyday, if I'm not mistaken you can give them up to an ounce for every month old they are, but we don't need that much so start slow and talk to your pedi about it. GL!

Thank you so much! Do you add the juice to the bottle with formula or give it seperately? That's probably a stupid question but I'm a clueless FTM

I switched from enfamil newborn to the generic form and although it claimed to be made the same the consistency of the powder was off and it made my Lo constipated with hard and extremely smelly poop. So my point is...maybe try another type/brand of soy formula and see if that makes a difference.

My LO was started on cereal for reflux, and it made him extremely constipated. The pedi said we could give 1 oz of pear juice once a day. 1 oz juice, 1 oz water, 1 scoop of formula. Worked like a charm. He was around 6 weeks at that point.
