"Supposedly" it can induce labor by ripening your cervix. However, many articles I have read, and according to my doula it won't work unless your body truly is ready for labor.
I took it at 36wks and now I am 38wks and 2d. 2cm dil and 80 percent effaced. It really works at least for me, and the other ladies that my MW works with it worked for them. You should ask your OB.

I'm 3 cm at 38 wks and no epo. Got you both beat. It's a mystery.
I bought some EPO and I'm 39 wks + 1 day. I haven't taken it yet, I really want to so I can help get labor going and get DD out already but I also feel like my house isn't ready and I'm afraid it might work a little "too well" and I will progress into labor before I can get everything done that I want to finish.

It's not going to throw you into labor if your body wasn't already heading in that direction anyway. So if you have stuff to finish, get on it, because you could be going into labor at any point regardless of whether or not you use EPO. It'll help ripen your cervix, but it's not going to start contractions or anything.
