Does anyone have experience with an abnormal Pap smear? I had an OB appointment today and he said my Pap smear came back irregular but that he was going to wait until I delivered the baby to do something that now I can't remember the name of it.
He told me not to worry but I was just curious what others went through

Re: Pap smear abnormal
Yes, I went through this years ago (probably like at least 7 yrs ago now). They'll monitor you and possible take a biopsy (sounds scarier than it is) to test the cells. Then if they're still abnormal they might need to remove the abnormal cells because those can sometimes lead to cancer. There's lots of info online. I actually got to the point where I had to have them removed, I think it was called a LEEP procedure. Not fun but also not horrible. Just a quick thing but you'll have some cramping. If the doc said not to worry for now, then i'd do just that (if you can).
Yes, all of this is true for me too, but even longer ago.
They will try to tell you it's HPV, but my H and I have only been with each other, and I was 19 when all this happened. We absolutely knew we did not cheat on each other. Then it happened to my friend and she was a virgin, and they told her they didn't believe her she was a virgin haha. There are other ways to have atypical cells down there!
It's like when the health center at school told my friend she was pregnant. She is a lesbian.
Sorry, I got off track there because I'm still angry about it all. But it's pretty common to have abnormal cells and the procedure is not that bad, especially compared with childbirth!
That's what he called it. The colposcopy. He reassured me that he was sure it wasn't HPV. I'm not concerned because for one he told me not to worry and two DH sees this all the time with life insurance policies. I was just curious as to what others experienced
This happened to me too! Except DH wasn't a virgin. He was mortified he had ruined me until NP at our 1st prenatal appt told me that since they never told me what strain I had that I my test came back negative and they never told me.
LOL @ the lesbian friend story. My BFF had the exact same experience, except she was going in for a pulled groin muscle so it was even more awkward.
I read an article a few years back that said that the pap test are so sensitive they come back with false abnormals all the time. Don't stress too much.

Yes, it happened *right* before I got pregnant with DS. I got my period before my scheduled colposcopy, so I had to reschedule it. Had the procedure one week after my period. Got pregnant the following week.
The results from my colpscopy came back clear, so that was the end of it.
I think abnormal results are not uncommon. You might just need to get another pap smear done and that could come out clear.
I am pretty sure we had sex Saturday and my PS was the next Monday
