Baby Names

Strong Boy Names? HELP!

I am a self-professed planner and not having a name for my baby yet is driving me bananas! Here are the details, please help me with any ideas you may have for my little one--I am school teacher, so remember ladies and gentlemen that there are no dumb answers :)

I live in Texas, and my husband and I tend to lean towards country and tough boy names, and I like old and Biblical names as well. We are having a boy, by the way, due July 14.

So far, his middle name will be Warren (after my grandmother's maiden name), so this covers getting a family name in there, but I am willing to change it if another great name pops up. First names we keep coming back to are: Major, Brooks, Landry, John, Axel, Max(imus), Everest.

Please help with any solid names you can think of. Thank you so much, I love this site and value your opinions so very much!

Re: Strong Boy Names? HELP!

  • Using Nymbler I got Henry, Blaze/ Blaise, Owen, Cole, Jude, Ethan, and Jasper. I would add Blake, Trent, and Bryce.

Same with Major.  Naming your kid "Prince" doesn't mean he will gain fame and fortune in his life, ya know?

This. Major just seems like you are trying to hard. Any of the names suggested sound good.

How about: Cash, Waylon, Wyatt, Colton

I love Brooks! It was on our list. What about Noel, Seth, Dean, or Jett? My boys are Reed and Pierce and we would have had Grant if 3 was a boy.

  • Trent or  Rhett.
  • LOVE Brooks. I know a guy named Brooks and as soon as I met him I thought, wow awesome name. there's actually a good natured fight between me and my sibs as to who gets to "have" it. Clearly I have a fave choice lol.

  • While I loved Applewhite when I was at UT, I think Major is a little too obvious for Texas, but would seem a little too out there for non-Texans.  I find it to be a good Texan pet name.

Landry - more subtle, but definitely Texan. Like it.

Only Brooks I knew was gay, so doesn't scream strong to me ;)  Certainly there are strong gay men, but he just wasn't one of them.

Axel - Rose.  not for me.

Max strong as nn for Maxwell.  I only know one Maximus and even after knowing him for a couple years, I still can't help but laugh at his name.  And I like quirky names.

Everest - mountain. not a strong man's name.  Even though it is a mountain , the name sounds a little wussy to me.  sorry!

    John - classic, strong.

Other ideas I think are good strong/Texas names: Samuel, William, Waylon, Hayes.

Ha ha!  I love Morgan and Virgil!  Tombstone fan?

  • I like Brooks as well. What about Hank or Gunnar? Both of these names come to mind when I think of strong country names.
  • Sounds like we have really similar tastes in names. I also live in Texas and we're having a girl but if it would've been a boy these are the names we liked.

I love Hugo.  It's strong and masculine.  I would have used it for this LO, but it does not go with our last name.

  • Thanks you guys! This is very helpful...still looking and seeing new ones every day.

Baby shower this weekend, so maybe something brilliant will strike me then.

Today, I thought of Merit. I could use it as  "John Merit" or "Merit Warren"

Any input there is welcome as usual!

    Thanks!
