Re: Bruce

  • It's my uncle's name.  I really like it.  I would definitely consider it if it weren't already used in our close family and if it worked with our last name.

  • I like it. It's a strong name IMO

  • My first thought is Bruce Jenner. Those damn Kardashians!

I can't picture the name Bruce on an infant or toddler.
  • Love it.  Strong, masculine and underused.  It was on my short list.

  • It is my day's name and of course that of The Boss. I like it, but do have a hard time picturing it on a baby. I think it is refreshing.
  •  It's a nice strong sounding name. I know a few, they are in their 50's. I work with one and we call him Brucie affectionately.
  • I have a hard time picturing it on a baby.  More an adult name.  But babies turn into adults so I think I'd use it if you love it.

  • Sorry, I hate it. It's my grandfathers name and I've always found it to be very unappealing.

  • Bruce makes me think of Bruce the Moose. But that might be because I am from Maine and went to camp one too many times.

It is definitely not a name that I would consider.

  • I like it.  In an era of OLD names, Bruce does sound refreshing.
  • Not a fan. It's bulky to me.

It is just one of those names that when I say it I get an unflattering picture in my mind of the person it belongs to like Agnes or Hilda or Fergus.

My first thoughts within 3 seconds of reading it:

Bruce Jenner, Bruce Springsteen, Bruce the shark from Finding Nemo.

The name is NMS but it's really not too bad.

I think I just found out why they named Bruce the shark in Finding Nemo, Bruce.  The 3 mechanical sharks in Jaws were nicknamed Bruce.

Bruce and Abram are the only remaining names on our short list.  I lean more toward Bruce.

This is exactly how I feel, it is a very unattractive name to me.

  • I love that it is a strong name but my first thought is that it seems so 'old' for a little baby.

  • I dated a super hot football player named Bruce in uni so I don't see it as stodgy or elderly at all. DH suggested it once because he thinks it's a strong, manly name and was very disappointed I have an ex named Bruce.

    I like Bruce. It's refreshing.

My only real connection is Bruce Smith the Buffalo Bills player, whenever he attends a home game the whole crowd goes nuts and chants BBBBBBRRRRRUUUCCCEEEE in a deep voice, so I tend to do that in my head when I hear it.  Totally random association and not a bad association however.

Not a bad association at all. Go Bills!

Anyway, it's a family name for me. It sounds a little dated, but I like it.
