wakeful period??

LO is 5 months old today. He is usually a good sleeper, has STTN since he was about 1 1/2 months old. But these past few weeks, he keeps waking up at night. Sometimes its just for his pacifier and I will give it to him and he will sleep for a little while and other times its a non stop battle to get him back to sleep. Every night he wakes up at 2:30am and needs to be fed but wont go back to sleep in his crib so we let him come back to bed with us. Is this the wakeful period? How long does it last? Anything I can do to help him get back to his normal schedule?
