Tips on Sippy Cup

We are really trying to get LO used to drinking out of a sippy cup. He is 9.5 months and he is having a hard time. I have two diffrerent ones. One with handles that is an easy pour out and the other without handles that is leak proof. He has a hard time tipping it up enough to get anything out of it and he ends up playing with it thus spilling stuff everywhere when using the non leak proof one. Pedi recommended water in the sup but LO really doesn't seem to like water much. any suggestions? thanks!
