Pertussis Vac

This post is not about if you are going to get it or not, or if you are going to request that other people get it.

I got mine yesterday, and my arm is KILLING ME!  I can't lift it over my head or straight forward or backwards.  Getting dressed and showering this morning were challenges to say the least.

Is this normal?  Has anyone else experienced this?  It sorta feels like the soreness I felt after the flu shot, but so much worse.

Oh boy - yet another thing to look forward to at my next appointment!  I'll have to remember to get it in my nondominant arm!

Thanks ladies- as much as I am not enjoying this, it is comforting to know that this is normal.  And CERTAINLY get your non-dominant arm- I made that mistake!

I asked by doc about mine yesterday at my appt. She told me I'm not getting mine until I deliver. I definitely thought it was most beneficial while I was pregnant. Who knows?

Yes, normal. My arm hurt for 4 days when I had mine.

My dr told me to always move my arm around a lot for the first couple of hours after getting any shot and that that should help. I got mine while pregnant with DS2 and didn't have any pain after because I did as she suggested.

It's the worst. I got mine four years ago as a booster and I remember having a hard time sleeping since it hurt so much.

Does the actual shot itself hurt, or the aftermath?

I NEVER get shots, but I did get the flu shot, and the shot itself didn't hurt at all, but after it felt like it was bruised for a few days, and was sore, but nothing over the top.

Here's what my OB told me at my last appt:

New studies are showing that some of the antibodies you get from the shot may pass through to LO - giving them some immunity before they can get their shot at 6 months.

As a nurse I recommend that you get the shot IN you DOMINANT ARM. You are more likely to use that arm alot more which will help the muscle work the immunization through your system faster and cause less pain afterwards. I do agree that you need to make

The shot itself didn't hurt, but yes, I did experience stiffness and tenderness for a couple of days.
