words list

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

What words are your babies regularly saying right now? Maesyn started off with a lot but hasn't really learned any new ones lately, so I'm "looking" for some more easy new ones to try with her now or soon. haha

She knows about 15 words. Lately, we've learned fish and cracker.

Here is her "list:"

hi
bye bye
kitty (or kitty kitty kitty. haha)
puppy
baby
cracker
Aubrey (her cousin..but actually says Auby)
bite
mama
dadda
eye
puff
fish
thanks
brr (if that counts, haha)

Re: words list

  • Wow, I don't have a talker yet. DS has said "dada" with meaning exactly once.

  • DS is a blabber mouth....
Grandpa, grandma, mommy, daddy, baby, belly, eat, thirsty, please, thank you, all done, down, up, yes, bath, night night, bye bye, doggy, nose, me, strawberry, blueberry, milk, cheese, ball, diaper, sissy, more, love you, amen, cup, juice, toast, hi, no, truck, teeth, bed, medicine, doctor, book, phone, water, Donald [for old macdonald], duck, bird, kitty, and hello.
Those are the ones he says with understanding. He can repeat almost anything but I don't think it counts until they say it on their own and use them properly.

Yeah, if it is going to be one word, I will definitely take mama. :-)

  • This list is interesting for me because DS will say a new word, but not repeat it for weeks. Then he'll say it all the time. Our ENT says that he's a little slow to pick up the new words because he's still concentrating on mastering walking. Here's what he's said so far:

    Momma

Dada (actually he asks for Dada all the time!)

    cat (tat)

    book

    thank you

    gentle

    hot

    fan

    nite nite

a-nana (a banana - I guess that sounds like one word to him)

    that

Not too bad, considering he picked up most of these since Jan 17th, after his tubes were put in.

    LOL!

Same for us.  DD says 'mom-mom' or 'mama'.  She says the following in her own half word/sound, jarbled way:

    Balloon - "Baa"

    Outside - "ooouu"

    Cooper - "mmpr"

    Kitty - "i-y"

Piggy - "i-y" (somehow I can tell the difference)

    Ducky - "u-y"

It really is a secret language.

And sometimes she will babble da-da.

She can sign a ton, thank goodness, bc that has helped us tremendously.  But talking, she does not.

  • DD has been talking for awhile but stopped adding new words for a few months while she mastered walking.  She says:

    Hi

    Dada

    Mama

    More

    Bite

    Done

    Bottle

    Cup

    Up

    Down

    Light

    Graham Cracker

Got (always said as a question when she wants to know what someone has in their hands)

    No

    Yes

    Go

    Duck

    Cat

    Book

    Beef

    Melon

    Apple

    DS's name

    Tent

    Car

    Beads

    Tickle

    Arm

    Buttons

    Berry

    Ipad

    Two

Eight (she adds in 2 & 8 when DS counts)

    Amen

Bops (her word for cheerios since she was 9 months old)

    This

    That

    Diaper

    Growl

    Mad

She also does several animal sounds.

  • Wow, that's a lot of words!  My DD has exactly 0 words.  She babbles a ton and can make a lot of noises, la-la, da-da, va-va, ma-ma, blow raspberries, point and grunt, and can identify several body parts.  She can do the signs for milk, all done and more, but she doesn't initiate them and only copies me when I say the words.  I'm anxiously waiting for a real word to come out of her mouth.

DS1 doesn't talk either.  He can sign more, all done, and eat, but like your LO, it is after I say the word that he signs it.

  • The only real word DD says is 'Hi'. She babbles ma-ma and da-da but doesn't really say the words with any meaning yet. She mostly yells "oo-ah" like a chimp.

  • DS says:

Dada, Mama, Done, Kitty, Dog, Grandpa, Grandma, Hi, Bye, Amy, What's That?, Nose, Ear. He also does a lot of animal noises upon request.

DS signs a ton so that's how he mainly communicates.

    Lola (Tagalog word for grandmother)

My kids have a Lola too! People always look at me crazy when I tell them that my MIL's grandmother name is Lola.  It might have to do with the fact that neither DH or I are filipino.

This - exactly!! I think the only thing my son says consistently is "doggie". And he calls everything furry with 4 legs and a tail "doggie". Haha
