Let's talk about coffee

And no, not in the "OMG I had coffee did I ruin my baby" kind of way.
This morning my newly-room-sharing offspring got up even earlier so even though I am typically coffee-averse during pregnancy (for it smells gross reasons, not it's caffeinated reasons) I fired up the coffee pot just to get me through.
I'm considering getting a pod coffee maker once the babies are here since it seems silly to use a 12-cup coffee maker to make 2 cups worth. But I know that typically when not pregnant I will drink half a pot myself. (I used to LOVE my French press but mostly retired it once DS1 was here and I was finding it was taking me all morning to remember to pour in the water while it was still boiling or press it down before it had turned to tar). My friend has a pod maker and it just seems ridiculously expensive if you want more than 1 cup a day. Thoughts on this?
Also, I only take my coffee black (lattes and other espresso concoctions do not count as "coffee" even though I also like to get them sometimes). Adding milk or sugar just ruins the flavor. Discuss.

Love the Keurig! We use it all the time even just for making hot water for tea or hot chocolate. You just run it without the K-cup. The refillable things are dishwasher safe and you just put in your own coffee and run it. Super easy. Plus it is very quick and you don't have a pot of hot coffee that could get knocked over by the kids. Definitely worth it. Check for sales at Costco or Bed Bath (with coupon).
Oh, and I like a little bit of coffee with my cream and sugar...caramel iced latte from Dunkin' Donuts is my favorite. Or the little glass bottles of starbucks frappacionos (sp?). I also like iced coffee--more like a milk shake!
My friend has the Mr. Coffee Keurig knock-off and it uses all the same pods. Anyone know anything about these? How much are we talking here? I have had my current coffee pot for probably 9-10 years.
Also, MH is a freak of nature and doesn't like coffee so I'm on my own with this one.
I'm confused, because you can do hot water through it just by not putting a k-cup in. I use it all the time for tea if I'm using a tea bag.
I love my Keurig, but it can be pricey. During the week it's great because H makes 1 cup on his way out the door, and I only drink 1 cup during pregnancy. I did 2 cups pre-preg, and H will usually do at least 2 on the weekends. For us the convenience makes it well worth it because our times that we drink coffee are often hours apart. Also I love being able to just easily make a cup later in the day if I want, or even tea, hot cocoa or hot cider.
We do have the my k-cup but rarely ever use it. When we have a lot of company we will sometimes use it but it can get annoying. We always buy the k-cups either at BB&B with a coupon, online or at Sam's club.
One of the few things I miss about working is that I used to work in a big city right next to a coffee roasters. I only ever ordered their coffee because it was so delicious. If I go to Starbucks or similar I order some ridiculous caramel or vanilla flavored thing just because I can and I don't think their actual coffee is that great.
This is my most favorite summer drink! I love me some Dunkin.

Samesies. It has really cut down on my coffee consumption, for better or worse. I had the same coffee habits as you prebabies.
The one I'm thinking of does hot and cold water for hot tea or iced tea.
We resurrected our old coffee pot and now he sets the timer to coincide with his alarm going off. He measures out stuff for 2 cups [even though it's a 12 cup] the night before, and he doesn't have to deal with it in the morning. Much cheaper than a Keurig for now!
[If we're ever given a Keurig for Xmas or something, we will probably do the refillable pod thing.]
We got a Keurig for our wedding (it's too expensive for me to justify us buying it, but it was a great gift). It's nice and convenient when you have two people that want to drink different things (I'm drinking decaf or hot apple cidar instead of regular coffee half the time). However, when DH changed jobs and no longer has his long commute he found that he was drinking more coffee (2-3 cups) at home in the mornings instead of one travel cup on his way to work. With the expense of the pods we switched back to our 12-cup Mr. Coffee.

I can definitely see the benefits of having a pod coffee maker. I've been considering getting one for the same reason. It doesn't make sense to use my coffee pot to make 2 cups of coffee. I'm debating between getting one or just transitioning over to my French press which seems like so much more work to grind the coffee then remember to not let it steep too long.
Is it wrong to add this to my registry? :-)~
Which espresso machine do you have? Does it do regular coffee, too?
I also do the french press on the weekends, and it's a nice treat. That's my favorite way to make coffee.

We just bought the Keurig after it caught our eye on Qvc...we never watch shopping networks but this was sooo cool and we HAD to have it! Lol...anyway so glad we did get it. I LOVE it. Since I'm doing decaf, instead of buying the pods I bought my favorite flavor and use the reusable kcup, plus I can run just hot water for tea and hot chocolate. It's pretty versatile. We paid about 140? Qvc has payment options. But I've seen a model under ours at Costco for about the same price!

My DH got me this for Christmas: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005GUGBS4/ref=wms_ohs_product and it's worked out fantastic so far. I had the same concern about expense (and I've had sub-par coffee from "gourmet" pods in the past).
Mine is a single-serve coffee maker that uses a permanent filter and whatever coffee you choose instead of pods. I think it's the best of both worlds: coffee on demand and lower price. The pods may be slightly more convenient, but you do pay for it.
Also, if you do get a pod machine, I've seen reusable, refillable pods for sale that *I think* would do the same thing.
yes. Walgreens has them for $10 for 4 of them and thy work exactly the same as the more expensive ones from BBB.
MIL got us a desk size small Keurig for Christmas and we love it. She got herself a mr. Coffee version and loves it. I think hers was around $50 on amazon but I am sure she got a crazy good deal on it.
We got some pods as gifts but prefer to use our own coffee.
My Keurig doubles as my bottle warmer.
This, except DH is the coffee drinker and I'm the tea, hot chocolate, etc drinker. I bought our Keurig on sale at Kohls and probably used a coupon and kohls cash as well. I also bought one of the mesh things so DH could use regular ground coffee. We buy the k cups through the keurig website or at BBB with a coupon. The website usually runs some kind of deal, either free boxes or X amount of each box. I've seen both the brewers and k cups at Costco, so you might want to compare the price there to BBB, kohls, etc.

We got a Keurig in November after our Bunn died.
As of right now I'm plus or minus on it. I think I like the Bunn better because it got so much hotter and was so incredibly quick. The Keurig is nice in that you can brew just a cup but then when we have visitors it's a PITA for everyone to just brew one cup.
They sell reusable filter baskets for pod coffee brewers. You can put regular coffee grounds in them and it still makes 1 cup at a time, but it's cheaper than buying the actual k-cups. I'm a huge fan of my Keurig!
This. We had a Keurig and it died on us after 3 years. We save much more money now anyway with a regular coffee make.
