Pregnant after 35

Looking for a good story from a 42yr old on this board!

We're about to start yet another round of Follistim & Ovidrel & will move from TI to IUI.  I'm just wondering if any of you on this board were successful with either TI or IUI at age 42 or older.  I really need to hear that it's possible because on the TTC after 35 board none of our stories have happy endings yet....
Me: 42, DH: 43. We are so grateful to have a 2yr old daughter, conceived naturally after 3 miscarriages & no treatments (our Dr. gave us 1 more month to try on our own before advacing to IVF, & we conceived her naturally in January 2010)! Trying since April 2011 without sucess....MD said we were both "fine" & that if it wasn't happening, it was a chromosomal issue. Finally started Follistim 225mcg injections with an Ovidrel trigger November 2012. Bleeding 11 days post Ovidrel on November 25th. Starting the whole lab/Ultrasound/Follistim cycle again on November 27th...

Re: Looking for a good story from a 42yr old on this board!

  • I conceived at 42, and will be delivering at 43.  However, I ended up pregnant the old fashioned way....and we weren't trying.  My DH and I have a 14 yo DD and 12 year old DS.  We thought we were done having kids over a decade ago.

I know that wasn't exactly what you asked, but since no one else has answered yet, I wanted to give you some hope a 42 year old can get pregnant.  GL!

  • How are your test results FSH, AMH and AFC? Also any mfi issues? don't want to be discouraging, but IUI only boosts your chances slightly. So if your results are not stellar, IUI may not be effective. However, I'm sure you will hear of some success stories, just keep in mind it depends on where your fertility is at.

  • I got PG last year from an IUI at 41.  Sadly that ended in a missed mc.  I went through IVF last summer and between FET tries, I ended up getting pregnant naturally in November of last year (big surprise).  I'm 42 now and will be 43 when this baby is born.  Best of luck to you!!

  • I'm not 42 yet, but did 3 IUI's with gonal f last year, which is similar to folistim when I was pushing 40. I conceived on the first one but had a chemical pregnancy. My Dr. said the injectibles can boost fertilty for a few months, and I did in fact get a bfp the cycle after our last IUI, which was a chemical pregnancy and then another bfp the very next month which is this little boy. I do believe the injectibles had something to do with me getting so many consecutive bfps. Also doing a cycle with the injectibles can give you a good idea about how you'd respond if you did decide to move forward with IVF in the future. If it's not a great $$$ to you I'd say it's worth going for it at least once.

  • My SIL gave birth at 43! Good luck!!!!
  • I got pregnant in December 2012, the month I turned 42.  It was shockingly natural.  I say shocking because my AMH was horrendous - 0.2.  However, there is one thing i did do.  I had been seeing Dr Dao, an eastern doctor and having weekly acupuncture and was drinking his fertility teas 3 times a day.  He wrote the book the Tao of Fertility.  I have to give him credit.  We were considering trying ivf in January and then boom, a positive pregnancy test New Years Eve!!

So far, the pregnancy has been going very well, great hormone numbers, baby's hb was 173 this week and I'm 12 weeks pregnant today.  Don't give up hope.
