November 2012 Moms

New York check in

Whats new this week ladies? How old are your LO 's? Do you have more than one child? What is the hardest and easiest part of being a mom? Who is back at work/school? Anything fun planned for this weekend?

Bonus q: what type of play do you do with LO?

This week CJ had his 2 month shots and check up. He was 10lbs 12 oz, he has doubled in weight from when we brought him home at 4lbs 11oz. I can't believe he used to be so tiny.  He is 10 weeks today and rolled over for the first time this week, he also started sleeping a 5-6 hour stretch at night. Such a relief to get a little more sleep. For me the easiest part has been the day to day looking after LO, I would be a SAHM in a heart beat. The hardest part at first was breast feeding (though now I really enjoy it) but now it is getting ready to go back to work in 3 weeks. I am really excited for the weekend. My mom is coming for a visit and is going to watch CJ so DH and I can have our first real date night. I can't wait, but I have anxiety just thinking about leaving him for a few hours.

LO is 9 weeks today,  I have 3 other daughters so that is 4 daughters :)  Getting enough sleep right now is the hardest part.  Easiest is my oldest DD helps big time so I do have it easy.  I am a SAHM.  I am going shopping tomorrow for some new clothes and DH has his work party tomorrow night.

  • I'm in Orange County :-)

S is 9 weeks tomorrow.  Holy crap.  This week's new thing is that he discovered his tongue.  If you stick your tongue out at him, he does it back, and then giggles at himself.  His babysitter (who is his college student uncle who needs book money) keeps sending me videos.  Ugh, my heart!

S is very playful, but he most recently loves to play what I can only call "faces."  He'll make a face, and then when you make that face too, he giggles.  It goes both ways, and when he matches you he laughs, too.  He also plays a fun game in the bath called "Kick daddy in the junk," but we don't like that one as much.

I'm back to work this week, and I am SO glad it's Friday.  Tonight, we're going shopping because I need "fat" work clothes while I'm trying to lose the last of my baby weight.  Tomorrow, we're going to NEPA for a birthday party for one of FI's old military friend's sons.  I've never met them, so that should be fun.

Thanks!  GL to you, too.  Obviously I know how stressful/scary it can be.

We're going to the specialist.  We have to go to the city for the testing, and then we're seeing Dr. Krishnan down in Valhalla at Maria Ferrari.  We found out about the marker through that mandatory PKU test at the hospital, the one with the heel prick.  The results come out fairly quickly, but he was baby boy O in the hospital but baby boy D at the pedi, so it got lost in the shuffle.  If we have more kids, I will definitely be following up with them myself (since I'll be keeping my maiden name legally).

  • I'm in Rochester.

Zoey was 3 months yesterday and this is my 2nd full week back to work. She's a doll and currently grabs anything she can and would prefer to roll over and sleep on her stomach than on her back. The hardest part is leaving  her every morning to go to work. The easiest part is honestly the night routine for us. This weekend is our annual end of hunting season dinner so it should be fun to see everyone eat and have a few beers. Zoey is my first and will probably be our only child. Neither of us are only children but we really only want one, two max.

This is my first check in, Zoey was due Nov 6th but was born Oct 17th. I normally hang out on the Oct board but not a lot of NY ladies there so I wanted to pop in here and say "Hi"

  • Hi all! I'm in Buffalo. :)

DD will be 2 months old tomorrow! Where did the time go? She is our first and could be our only child as I had a really hard pregnancy and we had always agreed on at least one kid and then we would "see how it goes."

DD slept 7 hours last night! That was a big deal for us...she's come such a long way!

The easiest part of being a mom is...hmm..loving her? She's had some difficulties so feedings are still kind of a nightmare (I EP currently) and she tends to fight us on bedtime. She's getting better at everything each day but things are still a bit difficult. She's still pretty darn cute though, so I think we'll keep her! Haha ;)

The hardest part I think will be going back to work next week. I never thought I would want to stay home with DD long term because I really love my job, but even though the past 9 weeks have been some of the hardest of my life, I love spending every day with her and seeing what new things she'll do.

As for this weekend, MIL will be watching DD on Sunday so we can go out to watch the first Sabres hockey game at a local ba with friends! :)

  • I typed a whole reply earlier from my phone and now I see it's not here. UGH!

My LO is 11 weeks (7 weeks adjusted since he was a month early). He was born the weekend of Hurricane Sandy here in NY. He has quite the story to tell about his birth.

Hardest part of being a mom so far has been having to leave the hospital without him while he was in the NICU. He was there for 8 days. Then, when he could go home, we had to house hop for another 2 and a half weeks to homes of family and friends who had heat and electricity. LO never got to his real home until he was almost 3 and half weeks old! Other than that, I would have to say doing it all alone during the week. DH has to travel for work pretty much every Monday night-Friday morning. I have such respect for single moms! It is tough to get it all done when there is just one of you! Easiest part-----loving him of course! Holding him, cuddling him, seeing him smile!

I return to work in 2 weeks. I never thought I'd feel this way....but I wish I didn't have to go back! I love my job (4th grade teacher) and thought I would have no problem heading back to the classroom. Now I wish I could stay at home! Unfortunately, I carry the health insurance for our family. If I were to stay at home on unpaid leave it would cost us $1700 a month for medical. In addition, we have excessed so many teachers in the last 2 years that even though I've been in the district for 15 years, my name keeps creeping closer and closer to the bottom of the list. Any extended leave could jeopardize me in the next few years since another 20-30 teachers are predicted to be excessed again to help balance the budget. I will just need to find a way to balance home and school in 2 weeks. I guess that will become the hardest part of being a mom. : (

LO likes to play on his Little Einstein playmat and on his Fisher Price Kick and Play Piano playmat. He laughs and smiles! He also LOVES to lay on his changing table and talk to the animal decals I put on the wall. Hysterical to watch him interact and smile with them. He also loves when I make funny faces at him...especially when I stick out my tongue!

No big plans for this weekend. Taking care of last minute preparations for LO's Christening which is a week from Sunday. LO is battling a cold so we will likely just lay low.

As for location----we live in Nassau County on Long Island.

  • I'm in the city. Currently residing in Manhattan. My boy will be 11 weeks on Monday 7 weeks adjusted

The easiest part hands down is loving him. Snuggling, cuddling, kidding and holding him. The hardest part is establishing routines that call for a bit more independence on his part. He won't spend much time on play mats and in bouncers if he is left alone. So we play together a lot. I do lots of tummy time with him. Talk to him a lot. Read to him. Strap him to me while I'm cooking and cleaning and take him for short walks if its not too cold.

He is talking A LOT. It's amazing!!!! He's also fighting sleep more than ever. So at night we get long stretches like 6 or 7 hours sometimes but some nights it takes about two hours to get him to go back to sleep. Hoping we get better by march which is when I'll return to work.

This weekend will be chill. Highlighting my hair. Mani and pedi. And making some pies.
