He's been bugging me lately because he says he's worried I haven't gained enough weight and he's worried the baby will be scrawny, and have low weight when he drops his 10% after birth. I've gained about 12 or 13 pounds, (horrible nausea for the first 5 1/2 months kept me from eating much) but the doctor's not worried. I've explained that the amount of weight I gain is not relative to the size of the baby, nor will it affect the amount of breast milk I make. what else can I tell him?
Note: I was a curvy 5'10" to start with, so it's not like I was a bone rack.
Re: DH on my case about weight gain
Tell him to shut up, that's what I would do, lol. If your doctor isn't concerned, he doesn't need to be.
I lost 20lbs in my 1st trimester so I've only actually "gained" 4lbs over my weight pre-pregnancy. Baby girl is measuring on track, estimated to be 6lbs 7oz currently.
BFP1: DD1 born April 2011 at 34w1d via unplanned c/s due to HELLP, DVT 1 week PP
BFP3: DD2 born Feb 2013 at 38w4d via unplanned RCS due to uterine dehiscence
Tell him not to worry...I am also a curvy 5' 11" (193.5 lbs day I found out I was pregnant) and weighed in at a hefty 194.2 this morning. I was worried about the baby as well and all of the doctors said he is just fine - 81st percentile in size as a matter of fact! The baby gets what it needs and leaves you the rest. AS long as you are taking your vitamins and the doctors don't seem worried...don't stress!
Good luck! :-)

Really, mom's weight gain doesn't have that much to do with baby's size. I have a TINY friend who gained less than 20 and had 6-7 pound babies each time, a plus sized mom who gained about 8-10 and had a 7.5 pound baby, and I gained 30 with DD and she was 5 lbs (This time I'm over 30 and LO is measuring really small.)
Maybe he should come to an appointment with you so the OB can reassure him?
My DH and I were concerned through a good portion of my pregnancy about weight gain.I lost 30 pounds in the first 13 weeks, and haven't been able to keep 10 pounds on, I gain a little and then loose it again. So we were worried that this LO would be a little one. But when we went for our 31 week ultrasound baby was measuring at 4 1/2 pounds!! Along with my stomach measuring a bit ahead.Though I am loosing more weight as of last appointment.
So yeah, you are right, weight gain for you is not relative to baby size.
This. And I kinda like the tell him shut up option too lol. If he's been told doctor isn't worried and baby is fine all he is doing is stressing you and that you and baby both don't need
This was my experience also with my first. I ended up 5 lbs lighter when we brought him home from the hospital! He was perfectly healthy - 6lb 7oz. Things are going the same this time around. I say the baby is still getting what he/she needs. I'm 5' 1" and was overweight to begin with.
Tell your husband that I'm 35 weeks, only gained 6lbs and my baby is estimated to be "big" at birth.
Weight gain is not directly proportional to the size of the baby.
