Baby Names

H or no H?

Lila or Lilah?

Is it too matchy with Kayla, my DD?

Not sure what we are having yet, but I had a dream that we had a girl and named her Lila(h)!

Thanks :)

Re: H or no H?

  • How would you pronounce it?

Lila - to me - reads like lee - la

Lilah - to me - reads like  lie - la

  • Lila but it depends on how you are planning to pronounce her name.

I prefer it as Lila with your pronunciation. Great name! It is a bit matchy with Kayla though.

  • I like Lila. I don't think adding a silent h to the end of the second syllable has anything to do with the pronunciation of the first syllable.
  • Lila. It's pretty but I think it's too similar to your daughter's name.

  • I prefer it with no H. With or without the extra letter, I think it is matchy matchy with Kayla.

  • Lyla.  Yes, it is matchy with Kayla but if that is your thing, go for it.  My SILs are Gabrielle and Danielle.  Matchy but it is a nice connection for them.
  • I prefer Lilah and think it's a pretty name. I wouldn't use it with Kayla though - too matchy for me.

This. I don't see how Lila or Lilah would = Lee-la. Lila, Lilah, Lyla all = Lie-la to me.

I don't have a strong preference with or without the h, but I do think it's a little too matchy with Kayla.

  • I like it without the h.  It's a bit matchy with Kayla, but nothing that would deter me.

    All of this.

  • I have a Lilah, so of course I love it with an h.  I like Lila too and don't get why people would think it is Leela.

  • Lilah is our top name right now. :)

I like it much better with the H. Makes it feel more "finished" and helps with the pronunciation of lie-la (IMO)

I like either spelling, though, and I would pronounce them both the same.
