Strollers for Running Moms

Ok running moms, I just want to get my thoughts out and see if any of you have other ideas.

I am trying very hard to not buy lots of extra things for baby. I want the necessary things, but not a lot of stuff that just sits around. So, with that in mind, Ive been reading about strollers. Ive pretty much decided that I only want one stroller (to cut back on the amount of stuff we have) and Im thinking I will do a BOB jogging stroller and buy the car seat adapter so I can use it even with baby is small. Seems like if Im going to spend the money, I should get as much use of it as possible.

My question, which BOB stroller to get,

The Revolution SE

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004DC9TAS/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=rebecc0d-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B004DC9TAS">BOB Revolution SE Single Stroller, Black</a><img src="https://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=rebecc0d-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B004DC9TAS" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" />

Or the Sport Utility
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004DC9T8K/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=rebecc0d-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B004DC9T8K">BOB Sport Utility Single Stroller, Orange</a><img src="https://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=rebecc0d-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B004DC9T8K" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" />

Im leaning toward the Revolution because the front wheel can be rotating or fixed. The fixed is best over rocky terrain (which is how the Sport Utility is) and the rotating is good when running and making turns. The Sport Utility is cheaper but I feel like it could be hard and annoying to have to pivot the stroller every time you want to make a turn when you're just out for a walk, jog or outing.

Ideas? Suggestions? I still need to go see a BOB stroller in the store. Im a little worried my short stature (5'2") could be a problem.

 Thanks for your ideas!

Re: Strollers for Running Moms

  • we have a revolution (single and duallie) and LOVE them.  it is the best stroller ever...it is actually my only stroller.  i got the car seat adaptor for it, and b/c it swivels it can be your main stroller too...best of both worlds!  i would definitely go with the revolution.

Ditto this. The resale value is worth it in our area, too.

  • We are considering the Revolution SE or the BOB Ironman. According to the Baby Bargains book, these seem to be the best options.

  • I have in my registry list the expedition brand stroller and it bring the adapter everything for 229.00 at baby r us
  • I bought the BOB SE after consulting a ton of running blogs and forums. I also considered the BOB Ironman, but I like the tires on the SE better because it looks like it will work better for varied terrain. The Ironman seemed more like a road bike tire as opposed to a mountain bike tire, if that makes sense.

Also just FYI, you aren't supposed to actually RUN with the carseat in place. I didn't know that until I found it on their website FAQ sheet.

  • I love this post! I am going back and forth with getting one. Is it a good everyday stroller?  I am trying to minimize the amount of stuff I need to get/ register for. I was originally going to get the Chicco Key Fit 30 seat and snap and go but then we went to BRU, we liked the Britax B Agile travel system so much better-- thinking in terms of an everyday use stroller (mall, grocery store, walks). Would the BOB work for this as well or is it good to have an everyday use lighter stroller?

The moms on my running forum all use it for a regular stroller, but I still have a small umbrella stroller from last time in case it doesn't work for us. You can get a decent umbrella for not a lot of $$.

  • Those who have the BOB stroller, do you find it is too big and bulky for an everyday stroller or to fit in your trunk?

We were originally going to register for the BabyTrend Expedition jogger travel system.  Then after doing more research and talking to friends who have it we realized it's actually not a good quality jogger.  Also when my friend stayed with me we had to take the wheels off for it to fit in my Jeep.

We have decided to do the Chicco Keyfit Travel system, and then when baby is old enough we will buy a good jogger, either in store or off Craiglist.  But if there is a good quality jogger system that isn't too bulky for daily use I might change to that.

  • We don't do a lot of running but we do a lot of outdoor hiking, etc and we got the BOB Revolution SE and the Britax B-Safe car seat. I'm barely 5 feet tall and I can maneuver it easily. The back wheels can be taken off really quickly and if I take off one back tire, I can fit it into my Impreza without a problem. I don't have a lot of room left in my trunk, but it fits! Granted, there's a lot of random stuff in my trunk too so that probably doesn't help the fitting of the stroller in it.

We're planning on using this as our main stroller, but we'll probably get a secondary cheaper stroller once the peanut is older since we'll be traveling on airplanes and going to more "touristy" areas and want something that's a little smaller for crowded streets.

I don't use my BOB as my everyday stroller. Personally it's hard to maneuver in a lot of stores. No problem fitting it in the trunk. I use my
Uppababy glite for shopping. When DD was smaller I used a snap n go. Yes I currently own 5 strollers and I use 4 of them on a regular basis.

  • I have a baby jogger summit for my running stroller and use it as an everday but I also have an umbrella stroller for nicer days that is a lot easier to manuever. Especially at the mall or the zoo where it can be crowded. You really shouldn't run with a baby till they are 6 mths with good head control btw. I did the chicco travel system and hated it. I would suggest getting a jogging stroller and a good umbrella like a Maclaren or Inglesina.

  • I got the BOB Revolution after several friends recommended it. Can't wait to use it! Also, it fits in the back of my Prius just fine.

  • When I nannied, the family got a Revolution and it was life-changing.  The BOB is amazing!  We're getting ours at REI, if you have a membership there, they have the dividends.  The staff is also really helpful with all of the active baby-gear (like bike attachments, etc.) so I'd recommend going to REI and chatting with them because they are more knowledgable about the running/hiking aspects of the stroller than say BRU.  REI also sells a Britax BOB specific car seat although we're going with the Keyfit system.

  • We got the BOB Revolution and plan on getting a snap and go/umbrella stroller for trips to the mall, etc. My sister-in-law has the Bob Sports Utility stroller. She uses it for walks, but that is pretty much it. The tires are much bigger then the Revolution and the non-swivel front wheel makes it much harder to manuever (which is why we went with the Revolution). We did our stroller shopping at Magic Beans and were told that the owner of the company did test 5ks with all of the running strollers and the BOB was far and away the favorite.
  • My SIL bought us the Bob Ironman as this was the one we really wanted for jogging.  I know that was not one of your selections but the reviews on it were great and I wanted one with the hand brake since we live in Colorado and I might need it going up and down hills/terrain.

Here's the reviews for it at REI.

We ordered ours on the black Friday deals when BRU had them for 30% off.  Also if you are interested in the Bob, REI usually runs some kind of special that may help sway your decision on which on to get depending on what the sale is they are currently running.

  • Thanks Ladies! I dont intend to run with baby til the recommended 6 month mark, but because I want to use it as my only stroller, the car seat adapter is important since baby will be small during the nicest weather....summer.

I think after reading the posts, Im just going to go with the BOB revolution and skip another stroller. We dont have a mall in our town and it will mostly be used for walking hiking and running. When we travel, we'll just gate check it.

    THanks again for the input
