I put it in the bottle because she wouldn't suck it out. If you want LO to suck it out and is having a hard time, give a little, then the paci, and it won't be so messy.
I've done all the ways you've listed OP. It's harder to do it in the bottle though, because if my baby doesn't want to eat then, he won't take it at all....so I usually just use the dropper.

My little guy refuses to take it and spits it right back out. He is breastfed so we tried with a bottle nipple and a syringe. When using the syringe, we used the pacifier to get him to swallow it, but he still spit it back out and got mad.
I give it to my LO on it own right out the dropper! I tried the bottle a few times too but i prefer just giving it to her right from the dropper! 1/2 teaspoon!
